  • I'm sorry but you seem to have lost these

My husband's story, not mine, but he works at this resort too, just over in security. We have this MOMYs group on property right now that is kind of a pain in general but this blew my mind. One of the mothers lost four kids and didn't even notice. We found out because the police showed up with the kids who had been at the nearby park when it closed, thankfully the oldest kid (who was only 10) knew their unit number (as all of the units are registered under the same name and there are quite a few of them) so they were able to get the kids back to their family without much of a problem. Apparently the kids just left and went to the park but I guess their mom was too distracted with all of her other kids to notice them leaving, she was confused when the kids where brought back because she still hadn’t noticed that they were gone. I'm wondering if negligence charges will be filed.

Oh and for those who don't know MOMYs=Mothers Of Multiple Youths, not all MOMYs groups are as extreme as the ones we have, I think the smallest family that we have has six kids (and the mom is 24) but I have a friend with three kids who is in a local MOMYs group.

I should also point out that some of the families in this group are fantastic but others are just unbearable.

It never ceases to amaze me how often this happens. And, not just with mothers who have several children, but mothers who only have one.

      OK, wait...........

So she's missing 4, I repeat four (not just 1) kids and doesn't notice, then the kids are at the park till closing, which leads me to believe they were there quite a while.

When my daughter was younger and had her friends over, I would always do a mental head count every 1/2 hour or so. Heck, I still do it now, that she is all grown up and on her own, but now I do it with the cats.

Uh, what? How can someone not notice that four kids are missing? Granted she had other kids, too, but not notice until hours later? Really?
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

:sigh: I know this type of mom. It's sad. The older kid probably knew the room number because he's very used to having to know things like that to take care of his younger siblings.

A lot of parents forget they have kids. At least, they do at my job.

Maybe it wasn't so much being forgetful as being grateful for the decrease in the ambient noise.

Similar thing happens at my store. We're in a mall, & we;re a 'toy' store, so parents will be at dentist/barber/other end of mall and just let their kids roam down here by themselves. It got so bad we actually made a sign for our front windows about how we don't babysit kids under the age of 14. You should hear some of the arguments I've had with parents about WHY their precious 6 year old can't stay in our store for "a measly 2 hours"!

After all, isn't free daycare what customer service is all about?

At the Ikea in Utrecht (the Netherlands) parents leave their kids sometimes for days in the ballpen. They drop them off at 9 in the morning and pick them up at 10 (!!!!! They close at 9) in the evening for a nice day on the town. And they are offended when the police is waiting for them to talk to them.
