I've worked at the tin foil arches that are gold plated, and Kennys Fried Chickenlike food. Some here might be surprised at how much food was wasted, and how much probably should have been added to that.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

Well, when I worked at C-Store, we planned on throwing away at least 10% of the food that we ordered. If one of my stores wasn't throwing out at least that much, they were probably losing business by running out of product.

Granted, the business model was such that you could brew a pot of coffee, sell one small cup, dump out the rest of the pot, and still make a profit.

Regarding donations, this is the company that the CEO went on Undercover Boss and acted all upset about the food being thrown away instead of donated. Um, that's company policy Mr. Bossman. You seem to be in a perfect position to change it. Don't get all huffy on national TV that we are doing exactly what you told us to do.

Yeah, because drinking a six pack while sitting out in the rain and not washing his hands after taking a dump couldn't have caused him to get sick [/sarcasm]
note, it does suck to be homeless, I feel sorry for them. I'm just making a general point how people blame the wrong thing for their problems. If none of the other people (paying customers and homeless) didn't get sick, then I don't think it's the burger's fault.

Also, the McDonalds chains have a deal where no matter what size drink you get, it will be a $1. Maybe this is what the "it cost more for extra?" people have in the back of their minds. Granted, a normal person, after being told it is extra, will just shrug and either get the item and pay extra or not get the item.
A drink like that is one thing. I forget what the cost is, but it is not that much. When you start get to the sandwiches, the margins are quite a bit smaller.

Pennies. If you're buying in bulk, the cup costs more than the soda in it.

I wonder if anyone here has run into this before. You could ask your manager if you could use an appropriate comeback such as, "We're a business. Not a charity" and see if that'll fly.

Many moons ago when fast food meant burgers ready to go, my friend; who was a Manager of a MickeyD's; used to give out to homeless people the burgers that were timed out and needed to be thrown away. He got sued by someone who claimed that they got sick eating those burgers. That ended that practice really quick. great idea on paper but a lousy business decision in execution.
I bet the other people who liked to get the free burgers loved him for doing that.

I would think those "endless buffets" waste so much too. I've been to one nice Japanese buffet in NY and I shudder to think of all the seafood and such that is tossed.
