Magical Cake Hatred

Welcome, Capt'n Jillian. I, too, am a former grocery store cake decorator. Seems like the more talented and intelligent you are, the more the dept. managers have it in for you (my dept. manager was a total asswipe).

Of course, this means now only my friends and family get my cakey goodness! Making wedding and grooms cake for hubby's cousin wedding this weekend, cake, frosting, and fillings all from scratch, of course! The wedding cake is going to be 4 layers of cake, 2 each of dark chocolate cake and white chocolate cake, with 2 layers of raspberry-chambord filling and 1 of dark chocolate ganache all iced in white chocolate Italian meringue buttercream before being covered in fondant and then decorated with icing brush-embroidery. The groom's cake is two layers of vanilla butter cake with fresh strawberry filling and iced in whipped cream. Yum!

From experience and what everyone has said, the manager either knows what they are doing and actually helps out OR has it out for everyone who makes them look like a incompetent idiot, because they most likely are.

You are correct, I am no longer at that job. About a month after that incident, and several more bogus write-ups, I sat down at my station and decorated a beautiful cake that said "I Quit." Then I put it on a stand, took off my apron, walked out and was the happiest person around!!!

While it is usually preferable to give two weeks notice, sometimes you just have to just walk out the door with your dignity intact and never return.

The cake well decorated cake saying "I quit" was one of the more classy ways to extend the mid-digit in the general direction of the boss.
