  • Stating the obvious

Yesterday, a customer asked me for help.
I stand over her cart and look at the screen, see she put in her rewards card last, so, before she says anything, I say, "Hit Pay Now."
H: "Nothing came up the right price."
J: "You put your card in last, hit 'Pay Now'..."
H: *interrupting* "But it's not the right price!"
J: "...And the correct prices will update."
H: "Guess I should've listened to what you were saying, huh?"
Thank you for finally understanding that I MIGHT actually know WHAT the hell I'm talking about, I mean, it's not like I'm working THIS position.
    "I call murder on that!"

Well, at least it didn't go on for TOO long.

Well, I finally understand what you do and what your job is.

It seems a grocery store (mercifully, not mine) has self-checkouts. And they have a lady there who doesn't work at a register, but does oversee the self-checkouts.

I still went to a normal register instead. I'd rather let a cashier handle my coupons than a machine.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Still better than those customers who will insist they even while walking out the door in defeat. :P

The Uscans at my store will update the prices right after the card is put in. There are however people who will not put in their card or accidently swipe the wrong card and then complain that they're not getting sale prices.
