  • The sign isn't the problem

Customer today bought a bag of Doritoes that are 2 for $4 if you buy two, and if bought just 1 or anymore than 3 it is $2.99 a bag. Customer scans the doritoes then looks at the price and says "You really have the change the signs here! Doritoes are supposed to be $2 and they're ringing up $2.99."

Sign wasn't the problem. It was the fact that, surprise surprise, SC did not read it correctly. It was a must by two to get certain price thing.

They ARE ringing up @$2 each...IF YOU BUY TWO!
What a dolt - you have my dearest sympathies with having to deal with this particular brand of meathead.

I tell you what. Go and get another bag and I'll only ring it up for $1.

I can understand the confusion. Some places really do mean half off when it's 2 for 1. But most places only apply the discount after both items are scanned. SCs need to read the sign.

From experience in my area, many times the 2 for $4, 3 for $6, etc sales that require you to by a certain quantity to get the sale price are for products that are stocked by vendors (i.e. sodas, chips, packages baked goods, etc). Products the store stocks and orders you can usually get as many or as few as you want.

And this... ladies and gentleman, is why we need to teach basic math in school and not allow anyone to graduate that can't read.

A lot of the stuff at Walgreens is like this, I've noticed. Most stores don't do the same thing, but Walgreens and some smaller convenience stores do

I have done that to people once or twice

At the Walgreen I used to work at we often had a “Buy One Get the 2nd for a Penny” sale. Everyday we had people complaining because something that was, say, normally $3.99 didn’t ring up for $2. Most people, once explained to them using small words, would understand the problem. For the people who replied, “BUT I DON’T WANT TWO!” my stock reply was, “Really? Well, you certainly don’t HAVE to get two but if you did get a second one it would only cost you a penny!”
