Regarding the Merchant's Agreement with the rule about not requiring to see I.D.: I've seen that, even looked it up just to verify it a few years back. However, I must confess, I've never heard of the credit card companies actually enforcing that law, so take that as you will...
I think anyone who runs a register is going to have the race card pulled on them at some time. I remember at my last job, I got this because I requested an I.D. from a young man who gave me a card with a distinctly female name on it. While it could have been a "Boy named Sue" situation, the fact that he started insisting it was because of his race that sort of clinched this wasn't the case.
Just say "well, you may be right." in a bored voice.
I may be crazy.
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...
Wife.....why do you need to see his card.

Wife. This white girl be stupit(just the way she said it)

Husband: oh you white people are soo soo dumb
wife-oh now get me a manager now I said now.
my manager walks over who is a black woman.
wife-this white girl be bugging about his card. We just want an easy experience. I think all these white peope did to us we deserve that.
manager- ok i see the problem. J you have the card. handed her the card. she told them. "You guys are not welcome in our store we dont allow racism
wife-OMg we arent the bad ones these white people are the ememy we need to stick together.
Manager-please follow me....she gave them tresspassing papers.
Some customers don't even have to be where you can see them to accuse you of racism. I had a phone customer accuse me of being racist when I told him he had to prepay his ad. I told him I didn't know and didn't care what race he was but we required prepayment. He went on and on and finally hung up without paying for the ad. I remembered his name and several years later he placed a "moving sale" ad. Yay! One less asshole in our town!
You know, I've gotten flack for asking for ID when they've clearly written on the card "See ID".
I read a story by a cashier who had a woman that had SEE ID on her card...
Cashier: May I see your ID please?
Woman: Why?
Cashier: You have SEE ID written on your card.
Woman: Oh! That's not for me. That's only for if my card gets stolen and someone else tries to use it!
