I felt out of place first time I started off at the gym, because I had no physique really and most of the guys around me (I was in the weight area and it happened to be mostly guys) were quite toned if not flatout ripped.

But you know what? I realized that I have just as much right to be at the gym as they do and these guys probably started out the same way I did.

I always work out alone with my Ipod nearby, not only does it help to give people the hint to leave me be, but it also helps me tune them out because I focus on the music and the exercise I'm doing and not on what looks I may be getting from others around me.

That's one of the reasons I love to swim; as I can't see a thing without my glasses I'm oblivious to any looks people might be giving me.

The mother should totally have said something to shut the kid up before he asked the question like a thousand times!

I am overweight at the moment, but if that had been me, I would have said something! Trying to put mysel in your friends place, I would have said something along the lines of "yes, I know I am, but did you know that you are a brat?". Even if I had been at work, it would have been worth the reprimand!

If I had said anything like that to someone when I was a kid, I would have been hauled out of there and home by my hair, and not be able to sit for a week!

I was always a quiet and polite kid, and I remember once when I was six, my mum and I were in line at the local supermarket (it was small, only had a few aisles and 4 checkouts), and this guy in front of us was being loud and screaming at the checkout chick to hurry up, so I wandered over, pulled on the leg of his pants, and when he looked down at me, I said "Mister, why are you so rude?"... The whole checkout area just went silent, as this man stood there going bright red, my mum not sure whether to be proud of embarrassed, and ever customer in line turned to look and all other check out operators turned to watch as well.

This guy just ummed and ahhed and mumbled and apology to the woman and then when she started scanning his stuff again, everyone went back to what they had been doing. But he was silent the rest of the transaction, and said "thank you" to the lady when she left.

I am now 25, and I guess you could say, I am still that kid in a way, because when I see someone being rude, I go over and say something.

I'm fat, and most people don't say anything....to my face. It's certainly not something I planned on or am proud of. I don't need to be reminded of it by anybody. I was always taught to treat others as you would like to be treated. Sadly, that is not instilled in people's conciousness anymore.
