I'm not sure if this goes here or elsewhere, first posting and all. If it needs to be moved elsewhere, feel free to.
Background: I work at a GameStore that's kinda hidden so we generally don't get many individual SCs. For games that are rated M you need to be 17+ and be able to prove it with some form of ID. We ID if the person looks under 30, as per company policy. /end of background
This is mainly pet peeves as opposed to specific SCs, since these things happen frequently enough that there isn't just one SC, though some are specific.
Guy and his brother come in, look around, and find some games to buy. All is well and find, until they present a card, which they use as credit. The name on the card is "Mary". Needless to say, they can't use that form of payment now, unless Mom can come in from the car. Oh? She's not here? No, you're not allowed to call Mom and have her say its OK. No, you cannot use that card as debit now, I know its not yours. After having to repeat that multiple times, they get the idea, leave and come back with cash.
People come in with games to trade in, we do that here. Please don't complain to me about how much you're getting for your games. I can't change that. If your discs are so scratched I see gouges, please don't expect to get full credit for it. Saying it works doesn't change a thing. You wouldn't want to buy a game that looks like that, now would you? Also, when you're trading in $160 worth of games, and I sell you our card that costs $15 but gives you 10% extra on game trades, don't look at me like I'm trying to rip you off. Not only are you gaining $1 from that, I'm honestly not trying to rip you off. I swear.
Yay, your credit card's name matches your gender. But! Your card isn't signed. So we need ID to prove that you are, in fact, you. What's this? You drove here without any ID? I saw you pull in front of our store in your car. No, you can't just sign your card now, it doesn't work that way. We can hold this stuff while you go get your ID though.
Little kid, you want to buy Grand Theft Auto? OK, where's your parent? 4 stores down? Well, yeah, they will have to come over here and OK that. (Usually this kind of thing happens when the kid in question looks 13-ish, and doesn't have a cell phone.)
There was one day when this 8-10ish yr old kid walked into my store in a full suit, looked around, asked prices of some games, we told him, and he left. All the time he was polite, well mannered, and understanding of the fact that he couldn't get a M rated game without a parent. As he left, he walked away out of view, and all the while my coworker and I just kinda wondered where his parents were. We never did find out. Stuff like that happens all the time, though normally the kids are in "normal" clothes. I could understand if we were in a mall, where its all one enclosed area. But we're in a strip center. Little Junior could walk out into the street and get hit, as the drivers coming into and out of our strip can be crazy.
A lady came in the night before the red Wii came out during the holidays. She was getting gifts, and had a PS3, was reserving the red Wii, and was getting some controllers & games that night as well. Her total was somewhere around $500. Well, of course her Amex card comes up with "call for authorization". In these cases, we have a # to call that we have to use, and *we* have to be the people calling. We cannot use a # the customer provides, and they cannot call and give us an authorization number. So while I tell her that her card came up like that, she's all "I'll call them, give me a sec." and I explain to her that we can't do that. She ends up leaving and not coming back - my coworker and I figure she hit her limit and was trying to go over it before Amex noticed. Sadly, I really could have used the reserve that night.
