The hubster loves Inkscape. I haven't played with it much but it is pretty cool.

there's no such thing as 'currency you can't use'. take it to most banks and they will exchange it at the prevailing exchange rates.
      In my experience, banks will NOT exchange coins, only notes. So actually yes, there is money you can't use ^^;;

Not too bad for me, I'll always be able to use quarters and nickels next time I fly out, but my fiance had to give all his pound coins and sterling to me because he'd never be able to get those changed up.

I would suggest that if you ever go on holiday and have an awful a lot of shrapnel, try and see how much of it you can get changed for a note in a shop or something. But if not, a lot of international airports have charity boxes that take various currencies.

She's been known to do this before, so it's not like she was only kidding, and she's definitely disappointed I didn't want her Danish money. >> Nothing against Denmark, I just can't use that cash here!
I would be too. Plus it sounds like she was planning on sending you the same number but not the equivalent amount. It sounds like she wanted to send you say... 10 krone instead of $10 for example... which would be what, $1.949....

But even if she sent you the right amount, if it's in foreign money she's still screwing you over. Not only will banks NOT accept coins for exchange, they also don't normally exchange unless the money totals out to over $50 US*.

        * assuming it's currency that they'll exchange. When I was in Albania we were directed to change our money back before leaving; apparently it's not worth anything to other nations.

That's what it sounds like she wanted to do; when making payments in a different currency the sender can choose which currency and I assume Paypal does the conversion (their rates suck anyway)...so after their cut you'd probably be getting ten cents or something equally ridiculous.

Paypal DOES allow you to keep multiple accounts under one username (I think), each in a different currency (the balances are kept distinct), and then "convert" it yourself internally. That would be the ideal, but less likely, way to do it.

What's ideal about having a balance in every currency a customer uses? I guess it's nice for them, but I really don't have much call to spend anything but US dollars. And I'd be hanging on to dozens of tiny little snippets of various currencies that way, given the whole long tail distribution nature of the nationality of my customers. Unless I've completely misunderstood you, this doesn't sound ideal at all. Especially since converting to yourself internally still has a fee attached to it, I'm pretty sure. Paypal isn't about to give anybody a free lunch that easily. They're in the business of making money themselves.

My bad, I should have clarified - I meant ideal for the SELLER if the BUYER has a multi-currency account ^_^

What's the art software with crummy lines that you use? I have GIMP, it's free, and I'm very happy with the linework although I've never tried printing anything I've drawn in it.

                  http://www.gimp.org
I used GIMP for the Christmas cards I sent out for the exchange, but I did the lines in pencil then scanned them in and did all the cleanup, color work, and text on the computer.

Ah! I see what you mean. I know a few people who do that, actually.

To everyone who asked, I've been using openCanvas for all of my art stuff. Recently a very close friend of mine got me Paint Tool SAI as a gift, so I've been using that for the past week or so. It's made a HUGE difference in the time it takes me to do art as well as the quality.

And my prices range from $3 to $9 at the maximum. And I don't charge extra for multiple characters right now. I know these prices aren't exactly moneymakers, but I need cash quickly and if I gotta sell myself short a little to do it I don't mind. x3 Besides, my art isn't nearly as good as many of the presenters on said site; I can't expect to be chosen for a commission over one of them if I offer the same prices they do.

Generally my commissioners are new-character-creators who need someone to draw up their character for the first time, or people who don't know much about art and are happy with what I can give them. :P This is a pain in the butt most of the time cuz it means I have to work without a visual reference, but I've only ever had one or two situations where the commissioner isn't happy with the final result, and I DON'T give refunds or redo the piece unless I've made an obvious mistake...for instance, if I misread their text description and forgot something or did something very wrong. If they forgot to tell me before I finished the piece then it's all on them. x3

Oh! And yes, I use Paypal With Paypal if I had to convert the currency it'd wind up being far less than I originally charged, maybe even ending up that I'd owe money. xD So no way was I prepared to do that; I would just end up with Danish money sitting in my paypal that I have zero use for.

                      Also, Bladespark

So I just had to go look though the pile of Christmas cards to see which one was yours. Luckily, it was about 6 from the top of the stack. A lovely unicorn.

It also reminds me I need to get started on designing my card for this year's exchange, unless I want to use store bought cards again.

I'd like to do custom cards this year, myself. Just gotta learn how to draw first >_> ...Or find something I can use to make a neat image to go along with my usual mildly sarcastic and nigh-unreadable scrawl...

...And, of course, that way I can make sure to include more GLITTER (muwahahahahaahaaaaa)! There wasn't nearly enough last time, apparently, as the post office didn't charge me any extra for excess weight...
