I can vouch for how the Green Wal does it-- if an item is "normally $2, on sale : 3 for $5", the first and second units will ring up as $2 and the third will ring up as $1. Most stores here will give you the discount on partials (e.g. getting 2 instead of 3), tho I have NEVER seen any store (personally) that will interpret BOGO as "half off if you just buy one" o_O

I have done this as well, when i see a SC in front of me and i see that they "didn't want them any way" and just leave them for the cashier to put back i take just a few moments out of my day to put them back, because its just a nice thing to do for food mart people and i always think that i maybe, no matter how small the act, just maybe made their day a little bit better

Krogers does it constantly in my area, but other stores don't. I just learned which stores do and which don't. Not that hard.

My store is currently running a BOGO50% off sale. Last time it happened I ran a quick down and dirty study:

Few of the people knew it was BUY ONE GET ONE 50% OFF.
Most read the sign as 50% OFF EVERYTHING.

I had a lot of people ask if we were going out of business (we just opened 6 stores in Cali, we ain't about to go out of business).

I took a LOT of migraine meds.

Reminds me back during my days with red dot electronic store when we would have for instance an 2 for $15 DVD sale with it clearly saying in the ad "or $9.99 each." I can't tell you how many times I had SCs who would argue with me that I should sell them just one DVD for $7.50. This would always lead to me showing them in the ad where it says the $9.99 disclaimer which always lead to "well the print in the ad is too small" or "I came all this way just so you can't give me a deal." Sorry the promotion says 2 for $15 not $7.50 for one DVD.

Another customer picked them up and was like, "These were on the floor." So I explained and we laughed and he WENT AND PUT THEM BACK. I was stunned. Floored. Really. The day was better.
Super customer. I would have given the man a hug!
