I've had, at the pet centre, a woman snippily say "Excuse me!" several times at a point when I had my hand in a budgie cage and was obviously unable to help anyone else. Was I rude then cuz at a fiddly time of trying to grab hold of a bird without hurting it I ignored the rude woman completely? Possibly, but I chose to put the bird's welfare before hers. In the end, holding the bird in my hand, I turned round and told her firmly that she had to wait as I was busy. Then she did the little jump and was happy to wait, but I would have thought it was obvious I was busy helping another customer. Oh well...

You didn't put that in your original post. You posted about "ignoring the bitch"
It didn't enter my mind as I typed. Probably because I was still a bit ticked off with the bitch while remembering the incident.

I actually thought I handled the entitlement whore pretty well considering I wanted to strangle her (and I think the other woman wanted to do even more than that to her). Just what is it she expected me to do? I wasn't going to walk away from the first customer just to help her and you'd think she had to know that. I mean, just what is it these people expect to happen when they behave this way?

I get rude SCs like this on a daily basis and experience has shown that the instant you acknowledge their demands for attention, they will take right over with no regard for myself or the customer I'm already assisting. So I've learned to ignore them. Usually they get the hink. This woman just wouldn't stop.

I realize a lot of people here think the customer is always right, but I'm not one of those people. Contrary to popular beliefs, retail workers deserve to be treated with common courtesy. If I, as a shopper, ever interupted someone who is already serving another customer, I would expect and deserve to be treated badly.

Echoing the Wow. Meijer sells stuff that expensive? Yeesh. Hardly anyone I know in the mitten state can afford that...
I hear ya and that's why we don't sell anything. Everyone who sees the prices can't believe it.

Before Christmas one woman had come in with her son. He wanted to buy her a nice ring but wanted her to pick one out to be sure she liked it. At one point the son had walked to the other side of the counter where our highest priced rings are. He was out of ear-shot so the mother told me not to show them anything too expensive because he couldn't afford it.

Right about then the son saw a pretty ring and asked the price. I told him it's $2999.00 (twenty-nine, ninety-nine is how I said it). The mother said, "Oh, that's not too bad." So I realized that she was thinking ($29.99) and I softy said, "It's actually two thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine." She was shocked, just like everyone else who sees these prices and said, "Let's look some more."

...and the ones who can, don't shop at Meijer.
I know!!! It's Meijer for crying out loud. Who the heck would spend that kind of money on a ring at Meijer?

$3K jewelry in a combination discount/grocery store? What a dumb ass idea.

If I'm looking to spend that much money on a jewelry purchase, I'm going to a store that sells only jewelry, because jewelry is the only thing they sell and the salespeople are more knowledgeable about their product (no offense intended to the OP).

This is one of those things that sounds good when you want to offer "one-stop shopping", but some people do not want to make only one stop to purchase their stuff.

Meh. I tend to head off the "excusemeexcusemeexcuseme" thing off at the pass by acknowledging the person first and telling them I'll be with them shortly as I motor by to do whatever it was I was doing beforehand. Keeps the numbnuts somewhat happy.

I also tend to not acknowledge or give in to the "but I'm in a huuuurrrrrryyyy!" thing. My wait time is my wait time, you are more than welcome to return after the time I've stated for you, we are here 24 hours. No, you may not haggle the wait time, this is not a mexican bazaar.

I realize a lot of people here think the customer is always right <snip>

No offense meant here whatsoever to RA, but I thought the whole point of this forum and website are that the customer is not always right.

That being said, I agree, the customer can be very very wrong in many situations.
