I absolutely know what you mean about the lack of communication thing.
Yet to have a job where it's a priority. Though, a close friend works nearby and that shop is a good example. Not sure how it is with management but between the staff members present, it's great. (Minus the carpet skating. You just don't talk about that with the manager.)
We once had a square, lidded basket (the correct term escapes me right now
) that had a tiny chunk missing off the back - think the height of your pinky nail and maybe the width of half your thumb at best. It was at the back on the bottom. A customer wanted a discount for it (which I can't do), but she insisted so I told her to come back a bit later while I call the area manager, who offered a 30% discount.
We figured she'd be stoked to get 30% off (this was one of the larger items in the store). She took it and didn't put up a fuss, but she did express her dissatisfaction and said she'd expected more. I don't know, maybe I'm the one with unrealistic ideas on money here? That's still the largest discount I've ever seen done in the shop and it wasn't something you'll even notice unless you put it upside down in the middle of the room with a carefully constructed lighting plan.
