I can easily imagine forgetting glasses, I do it frequently even though as I said earlier I've been wearing them since I was 18 months old.

I have 3 pairs in use at the moment again now I couldn't get used to the vary (tri) focals. My distance ones I don't forget as everything further than my outstretched wrist is fuzzy without them, the mid range ones live on my pc as that's when I normally use them but my readers i manage to walk out of the house with a lot

It wasn't too bad at first but now my close sight is deteriorating pretty fast
However, I don't make a fuss, if I'm really struggling I either will apologise & ask nicely for a little help, or if I can't make out the ingredients on something I'm buying, I'll put it back & try & remember my specs next time.

I even bought a little pocket magnifying glass for emergencies.. and guess where that isn't half the time I need it!
    Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

I've had to wear glasses since I was 14. But, considering that my vision has gotten worse, since I spend all day at work on the computer, I can't see without them. Even now, I'm on my laptop...which is about 2 feet from my face. Removing my glasses, I can barely see the text on this page

I can't tell if there IS text on the page.

(Thats actually how I discovered I was short sighted - I changed schools and they started using a white board and I couldn't tell that they'd written something on the board unless they used black!)
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

im so short sighted that in the navy i had to pick which sign i could read without my glasses..

          Me: two...
          Guy: Sign 2?
          Me: no... the number 2.

Literally the ONLY thing I could read was the numbers above the signs!
but i knew i'd need glasses cos i came in with them.

i first found out i needed glasses when i tried on sis's and saw that i could see better with them on.

and yeah mine's bad enough that i need them to use the computer too cos... even a foot away is too far

I swear someone posted a story about how they were waitressing or hosting and how the customer DEMANDED to use her personal reading glasses to see the menu, and then complained that they should keep reading glasses of all strengths at the host stand for when people forget theirs
If you did keep reading glasses for the customers to use, you would be telling them that the other customers that used them never returned them.

I started wearing glasses in the 3rd grade (8 years old). I switched to contacts in my early thirties. I could see about 6 inches without correction. I was 20/600 in one eye and 20/800 in the other eye, uncorrected. Then about 12½ years ago I had the LASIK procedure. I can now see the craters on the moon with no glasses. But I do use reading glasses, and computer glasses.

Having both reading and computer glasses does a lot to reduce neck and back strain and pain.

I discovered I needed glasses in a similar way.. when I went for my driver's liscence and had to do the eye test, I honestly thought the test screen was blank. Apparantly you need perfect eyesight to drive. I knew my eyes weren't perfect but I didn't realise they were THAT bad.

I wouldn't know about that >_> Especially with the way some folks drive around here...
