That's what I thought too. If you guys are counting right there any customer that comes along is a possible safety issue. At my store we have a counting room where all the drawers go.

During Christmas time when the drawers fill up fast we do cash pulls several times a day. The person pulling wears a messenger bag and puts the money into it. When I was security I would usually walk with them and wear the bag. Being that I'm a petite woman, people would joke that if they wanted the money bad enough they could just pick me up and run out. Valid point.

Oh, the light off = lane closed bit. Don't get me started.

I'm a cashier myself, and go through this little adventure every. single. day.

It also happens to my co-workers, who can share the exact same story: At my store, we both turn off the light and put up a chain at the end of the aisle because people just don't understand that even if I am standing here, the light being off means I can not help you.

We'll have people crawl under the chain-Yes, crawl-and then get angry when we can't help them because we're already counting our drawers for the day and want to go home. I usually get old folks and rednecks who don't understand what I have to do to get them through my line and out, so putting up with them all day, just to have them keep me from going home is enough to make me wanna scream.

But I'll go into that when I'm free to post more.
Back in my supermarket days, I used to hate that. Usually I would take the people that were in the line as I turned off the light and maybe a couple after that if they had small loads. People don't realize that if the cashier doesn't go on a break in a timely manner it screws up the rest of the schedule. But then again, some poeple view the cashiers as these robots that should just bend to whatever whim they have at the time.

I think I've said it in on another post but I'll say it here, that seems pretty asinine that you are put on probation for a negative survey. It seems like before they take a step like that, they would investigate it a little further and find out the circumstances. What is to stop a person who hates your guts from getting you fired?
Unfortunately where I work, if you have a customer complaint or a bad survey, you get written up. Sometimes the union can come in and fix it, but they ALWAYS take the customer's word over the worker's, even if there are witnesses. That means anyone walking through the store can see who is working, and file a bogus complaint. It sucks but I can't find a way to make it stop. Fortunately we haven't had that happen too much since we moved to the new location.

Nothing. Her workplace is firing lots of people and doing it fast to begin with.

And I believe I've said this elsewhere on this site, customer surveys are probably one of the most useless ways to measure customer satisfaction. They give you an idea of customer satisfaction but there are better ways to do it. Part of the problem is that typically you only get the people that were completely enamored or the people that were completely pissed and more likely the latter group. So it gives a skewed view of customer satisfaction. But MBAs like their numbers except for the ones that they really need to work on.

Seriously considering following our HR guy to your company. But it would be a huge paycut for me.
