I agree with you, strawbabies. I used to get $0.25 tips when I valeted...I generally wanted to give them back, because I didn't want my pockets full of quarters.

That being said, I always tip at least a few bucks, depending on a few things--how fast my food gets there, how crappy the weather is, how far the driver had to go and sometimes the demeanor of the delivery person. If they're coming from a little ways and I'm ordering because it's icky out and I don't want to leave my place, they get a good tip (around 20%). If they're creepy and slow and forget part of my order, little to no tip.

at least you aren't delivering to my fiancees cousin. we will call him H. H believes that because there is a $1.50 delivery fee, we should not tip. oh, and because alot of drivers earn $10 an hour around here. i say, who knows if that delivery fee is for the driver, and the driver is always driving for his job, whichmeans he is filling up on gas ALOT! that $10 an hour doesn't go far if you are filling up your car all the time
I'm glad you posted this. I rarely eat pizza, much less have it delivered. I always thought the drivers made $10 an hour plus the $1.50 for each delivery. That's more than I make. But if they're not reimbursed for gas, I see now that I need to tip them something. Honestly, I never gave a thought to gas.

I tip a standard $4 for pizza or steak deliveries.

          How Much Would Jesus Tip?

We need to make that into a bumper sticker and sell it to delivery people.
          check out http://www.tipthepizzaguy.com/store/

The delivery drivers get NONE of the delivery charge that the stores collect. From reading the discussion board, they are lucky to get reimbursed 75 cents per run for gasoline, which doesn't come even close to paying for vehicle maintenance. Most drivers also earn minimum wage from the company, and depend on tips to make the bills and to survive.

Where I live now, I'm too far out to be in anybody's delivery zone, but you better believe that if/when the town grows out this way, I WILL be a generous tipper!

Sometimes my husband will have to end up paying to work at night because of poor tippers and he even drives an economical, small car that gets great gas mileage. Fortunately, though, it doesn't happen that often, but there are occasions when he is in the "negative."

When I was waitressing, I was given my all time favorite shirt. It had a waitress on the front and she looked a little disgruntled and it said "God knows when you don't tip".
Years ago, I worked with a bartender who had a button on his uniform that read: "Tip me or die of thirst."

I have recently seen a few people here and there wearing a shirt that I really really want. It reads: "Bartenders are gods!" on the front, and on the back "Don't anger the gods. Tip well."

Even though I am not currently tending bar, I REALLY want that damn shirt.

                hehe I like those shirts.

I live outside the delivery zone of everybody but when i do eat out in a tipping restraunt I like to try and make sure I tip appropriately. sometimes I've tipped more. I'll agree though that a buck or less is ot a tip but an insult generally. though I'll admit I've seen the rounding method of dealign with a checkbook too though.

I've noticed that we always get our pizzas fast and hot, but then I tip at least 15%, more if the weather's bad.
I try to tip at least 20%, but it's probably less, if the place(s) I call add a delivery charge. Either way, though, I get my pizza hot and quick.

Since my sister doesn't tip, and I usually end up answering the door (She's hard of hearing)... I usually give him a 5 before getting my sister.
I've been here for two years, work harder than most others, and I'm getting paid $1.80 an hour
less than the 17 year old slacker you hired two months ago. Maybe that's why I'm not chipper at work.

When my son was still a minor he delivered pizzas for a while. He was only paid $4.25/hr. Not only do the drivers have to pay for the gas to deliver those pizzas, there's also the wear and tear on the driver's own vehicle to consider.

Moral of this story...tip the pizza delivery guy!!!

I've luckily never had to pay to deliver, but when I worked day shift there were a few occasions that I walked out with less than $5, and one occasion where I made nothing.

The least I've ever made in one night delivering foodstuffs was $4.

                          FOUR FUCKING DOLLARS.

Sometimes, if someone doesn't tip me, I'll fantasize snatching the food out of their hands and stomping it to bits while yelling, "No tip? NO FOOD!!!!! "

Please, have some common courtesy. Delivery drivers are out there, sometimes in terrible conditions, trying to get your food to you on time. Just a couple extra dollars is fine, but exact change will more often than not put you on their shit list.

                            Hubby's reply....(he delivers pizza)

My fantacy is Jim Carey, ala Ace Ventura, kicking the pizza box down the hallway(dorm hallway). In the summer, we deliver to teenagers at sports camp, I will be making 20 deliverys at one stop (pickup trucks rock). They will be waiting for me, and I will yell out, "People who do not need change to the front of the line, People who have exact change, to the back of the line."..... It's good for an extra $10 per set, easy.....

To the person who said that Jesus probably wouldn't want me to complain: You are probably right about that too. I just found it frustrating and very rude, considering that he got lippy with the manager and that he called late in the night (~45 minutes before close).
Jesus got lippy with your manager?

(This site is even more fun to read when you haven't quite woken up )

The pizza place that I order from has a debit/credit card machine for delivery that gives you the option of giving a $tip or a %tip, which is nice, because I don't want to punish the pizza guy for my hunger-induced poor math skills. Even the grumpy ones get a decent tip from me (they are always quick and the pizza is so good).

Not only that, but the insurance! If your insurance company knows you're using your car as a delivery vehicle, they'll charge you two arms and a leg... and if they *don't* know, they won't pay if you have an accident!
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
