I feel for you as well, GK. I would have had to listen to the whole thing too. Even if they got abusive I wouldn't have been able to cut them off. *big friggin' sigh*

Wow, sounds like they had every idiot in the company in the same room. Yeah, great use of their company's time and money. Sorry you had to listen to that.

As far as managers managing....how does that work, again...?? It's been a looooooong time since I've seen it.

When Gravekeeper mentioned an entire culture of abusive twats, I wasn't thinking U.S. either. Twats like that are reviled here in the States 'cuz it's not normal to standards of decency.
I would have started sobbing and wailing. BUT. I have boobs. And they probably would have yelled more.
It's entirely possible that it's Japan. Or China.
EDIT: I know that not everyone in these cultures, or even most, would be called such. Like all societies, there's a small segment that abuse and belittle others. It's just in different flavors, and levels/times of acceptability. In GK's situation, it's when a subordinate/'lesser' screws up that this could be considered acceptable.
EDIT: not to mention corporate culture! .___.
Also, having an entire room of people yelling at you? EGREGIOUS.

Wow that's an epic fail by the people in that boardroom. I was thinking it was an Asian nation from the get go.

I think if Gravekeeper wanted to disclose the particular country, he would have by now. I think he's trying to avoid perpetuating any stereotypes. That's a good thing.

This isn't a thread of "guess the country" it's about a sucky customer. Let's stick to it, please.

Lol, that's when I pull out my book and start reading while they yell. With an occasional 'excuse me' until they finally stop yelling. Then a sweet 'Since your subordinate gave incomplete information which is the reason it is taking so long, I wonder why you are berating me instead of the person in your company who caused this delay on you.' read more for following yelling. then 'If you are quite through yelling at me, I would be happy to contact the tech again, which I would have done 20 minutes ago, if the person who made the error in your company, had not brought me into this conference call to be yelled at, causing more delay in getting your issue resolved."
I grew up with 5 siblings. I also was in the navy and shared a barracks with around 50 other women. I can tune out almost anything, while retaining enough to make sense. All I need is a good book.

Yes (and apologies for perpetration). After all, if I judged everyone by what's on this site (for most of its' content), I'd be a certified nihilist/misanthropist. Which I am not any of those three.
I wonder what was going through their heads, yelling at you? Do you think it was a group case of "I'm angry about the problem, so I'll be angry at this dude?"

I wonder if there's any way for you to forward that back up to the people whose account it is, to let them know how the SC is treating their staff.

In a previous job, I had a boss who was like this.

On occasion, whoever was locking up the store at night would forget to lock the back door. Very Bad.
However, what happened when you did this was that, when the first employee arrived in the morning, they would open the back door to enter the store and that would set off the alarm. If they arrived before the employee who had a code to the alarm.
And then the alarm company called the owner to tell him the alarm was going off.

On this occasion, it was I who had forgotten to lock that door, and the owner called me.

He had a HUGE issue with people hanging up on him, it pissed him off unbelievably, so I had to stay on the line until HE ended the call. I was asleep when the phone rang, but I was fully dressed with car keys in hand when I interrupted him with "Look, Tim, do you want me to deal with this, or do you just want to yell at me, because I can't do anything about this while I'm still on the phone."
He said I should "deal with it", and then demonstrated that he had no problem at all when the person hanging up was him.

Then again, if most of us (including me) thought "USA" right away, then perhaps the stereotype has transferred here?

I didn't think USA. Gravekeeper's American callers are easy to spot because they keep getting arrested at the border :P You guys aren't paying attention!

Sorry you had to sit through that. >( That really sucks....I hope I never have the misfortune of dealing with this company (or maybe they should hope they never have to deal with ME. I do not approve of this kind of behavior!)
