I have a few rants to post...

1: My twin sister often visits me on Saturdays at work to shop or just browse being that she doesn't get the chance during the week because she works Monday-Friday. So she is looking through the racks and another customer is looking through the same rack....The woman questions her about the price of a jacket and my sister saids she is sorry but she does not work there so she doesn't know...Then the woman responds with extreme attitude "Then why are you here"...Okay I didn't know that she was the only one entitled to be there shopping...By the way we wear smocks (red smocks) and my sister and I do not look that much alike

Rant 2: We are doing a promotional type deal where after spending so much you are able to purchase a bag and fill it with clothes...Well a woman goes ape shit over this to my sweet older co-worker YELLING that this should be good at the store in her town because that's where she lives and not only that but she didn't get her 10% dicount for being a college student and blah blah blah....She does not understand why we are doing this promotional thing because it's an inconvience for her..
1rst and foremost the promotion is to advertise our new store NOT another one

2ndly You must show your school id and mention that you are a college student HELLO we are not mind readers...Funny how when asked to see her id she refused the discount...hmmmm I wonder if this could be somebody trying to get a freebie discount. Also this woman is obviously in her 30's with a child who I have not seen in there before nor would my co-worker who is new....so what her problem is I couldn't tell ya But my co-worker did not deserve that AT ALL!!

So, your sister has to be an all-knowing employee...because she looks like you? And if she's not, she shouldn't be there, because she's supposed to know everything about the store by virtue of...looking like you. Maybe the crazy wench thinks your job is hereditary. Maybe the crazy wench is confused, having mistaken being a customer for being owner and manager, in addition to believing that your job is hereditary. Maybe the crazy wench thinks the store employs an army of clones that look slightly different from each other. Maybe the crazy wench should run along home to that big cardboard box parked in the alley...

But, I mean, seriously, ow. That hurt my brain.

Just because the woman was in her thirtys does not mean, that they could not go back to school

That's very true. She could have lost her job and went back to school to be retrained for another occupation (happens quite a bit in NC with all the textile and manufacturing jobs disappearing.)

Or she could have started when she was younger, and had to stop b/c of life getting in the way (ie, having a child/getting married/whatever) and was just recently able to pick up where she left off.

One never knows what's going on unless one is in the other person's shoes.

But either way, it's entirely possible. I've heard of people in their 40's, 50's and older going to college.

You're never too old to learn, IMO.

          I'm a prime example

I graduated college at age 34.

On the other hand, if she's not willing to show her student ID for the discount she wants so badly, that would make me question whether she actually has one.

And that first woman needed a smackdown bad. "Oh, I didn't realize only one person could shop here at a time. Mind leaving? I think it's my turn."

          But I'm bitchy like that . . .

Well, to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, here...

Obviously her age does not mean she can't be a college student, but if I were the employee I wouldn't assume it of a woman that age with a child, so I wouldn't think to ask if she was (if I were so inclined to help her get a discount in the first place, which it sounds like I wouldn't be); plus if she won't show ID ... ? ...maybe she doesn't like her picture . Plus the OP pointed out that neither she nor the other employee had seen this woman before so they would not know that she was a student based on having helped her before. I had regulars that I recognized and would use the dummy number without question if they had forgotten their discount card and I couldn't look it up for some reason. If I didn't recognize you, I'd go through all the motions of looking up and asking questions before using the dummy # (for those who were SC-insistent or just really nice...).

Wow. Woman #1 has some issues. Seriously. (Now I'm wondering if MY twin sister ever experienced anything like that when I was working at Goodwill...)

I guess I better stay the hell away from the pharmacy where my brother works, as my knowledge is in computers, and I have no medical knowledge whatsoever.

My brother is a pharacist, my mom is a nurse, and my stepdad is a doctor. And I'm a computer guy. I'm the one who doesn't belong, story of my life...

I know how you feel...my dad worked for AT&T (later Lucent) for 35 years in the same office. My mom worked for AT&T before my brother was born, then went back when I was 11 as a temp (for 13 years in the same job). My brother worked for Lucent, then Avaya when they spun off, but in the same office. I am the only one who never worked in that building.

My dad and brother are computer guys. I do books.

                      Wait, WHAT?

Okay, customers with serious issues. Especially bitching about prices at a /thrift/ /store./ Can you say cheap?

Also, seemingly unrelated note - do you have problems with children peeing in your dressing rooms? I seriously saw some little transient-to-be just lift skirt and cop a squat right in the fitting room a couple weeks ago at the Salvation Army and it grossed me out.
Saving the planet and everything on it is certainly a daunting task; but see, push has come to shove...Let's roll.

WAIT A MINUTE...I wasn't implying anything about the woman's age except that we did not suspect she was a college student because yes she did not fit the norm of an ideal college student. My point was that she DID NOT present an id which all college students must do ....her age had nothing to do with the rant....If you are a college student you MUST SHOW ID! We are not mind readers. I was suggesting to all those who assumed that I was implying that older individuals do not go to college is that I did not recognize her nor would I have magically known she was in college...By the way I am 28 and go as well!

To the question about peeing in dressing rooms...YES..it has been a problem quite so that all dressing rooms have been eliminated in alll the surrounding Salvations armys.....Many people use this opportunity to use the restroom and not actually try on clothes..WhY I have no idea...I worked for Goodwill was a huge problem there also!

I believe customers excreting various bodily waste products in fitting rooms is a problem any place there are fitting rooms.

It's been known to happen at my store too.

Well i was going to say it sounded more like the lady was wanting to try and score a student discount without flashing thee card. Is your store near a college? or in a college town (I may have missed that in the OP)

Yes the store is just a short drive from two colleges...we offer a 10% discount to any college student with id. I was not implying anything about any age and how older people do not go to college...I just did know the woman!
