THEY SAVED HITLER'S BRAIN (and kept the receipt, too)
[In RS when we have a return like that, and dont want a bad situation we sometimes issue a $5 giftcard, then immediately void the ticket.]
Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't that cause the SC to be even SCier the next time he came in when his giftcard didn't work?
I'd hate to be the employee to have to deal with him the next time.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.
I have heard of someone who wanted to return a washing machine after 3 years because it wasn't working....it turned out they were putting about 35kg of washing through the machine every day!! No wonder it failed.
Sorry, but a failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!
a three-year old coffee maker-reason for return-It quit working.
BlaqueKatt-who is ever so glad she is out of the mail-order* company returns department
*people will return even nastier stuff if they don't have to look you in the eye when doing it-and the place I worked had NO return policy-NONE, you could return anything, anytime-I'm amazed they're still in business. But the policy of having no policy is not that well known.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes
Oldest I remember seeing was a water hose when I worked for a hardware store.
Guy came in with this busted hose saying it was defective and we had to return it. Lifetime warranty and what not. I asked for his receipt, to which he replied that he had bought it at our store the prior july. Imagine his shock to find out that our store, was only three months old, and he had bought it some nine months before the store had been built.
my manager has no balls and allowed a customer to return an air conditioner that was 2 years old. kicker is she didnt bring the a/c in but got money back so she got ot keep the a/c AND her money.
Do they make ball implants for managers without them?

it'd be great if they did; sounds like he's in need of a brain implant as well. a 'return' without the item/receipt and they kept the unit and received cash? sounds like lack of cajones AND intelligent reasoning...
look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)
At the garden centre, an SC brought back a garden hose that had a receipt attached to it from 10 years ago! Luckily for my sanity, the IM wasn't there at the time so I was able to refuse the return. The SC blew up at me, but I was backed by the boss's son so the SC had no choice but to leave. We didn't even carry that brand any more, so there's no way we would have been able to resell it.

To everyone who has to deal with these people, I apologize.
My GM is one of those people who will return things with impunity. It doesn't matter how used it is, how long ago she bought it, etc.
On the few occasions I've had the misfortune to be present when she does this, I usually try to make myself scarce, I'll escape to another dept. until the ordeal is over.
the way the reutnrs desk i work at is set up is that 4 registers face the customers and a 5th one faces the resgisters so you cant see em come up. i love that 5th register

The oldest one I've dealt with was for some sheets purchased back in March 2003. At first, I glanced at the receipt, didn't recognize it, and nearly told her that she was at the wrong store, but then I noticed on the top that it said the store name in big bold letters. Huh. So, I checked the purchase date and I sorta when "wow." The lady was like, "Yes, I know. Can you return it?"
I was going to attempt to return it, because she purchased the item before our 90 day return policy went into effect. I know that the receipt is worthless, because the register it was rung up was junked a year ago. (not to mention the system drops salescheck numbers after about 100 days.) So, I scan the item and surprisingly it still rang up in the system, so I was able to do a return without a receipt and gave her a gift card for it. Though, she lost about twenty dollars since doing a receipt-less return makes the system go back to the last sale price of the item. The sheets she was returning had gone clearance for like 50 dollars and she had paid 70.
Thank god that she was understanding and didn't pitch a fit about not getting all her money back. She let me keep the receipt too--I had fun showing it off to my co-workers and some of them had one of those "remember when..." moments.
I have heard rumors of someone trying to return sneakers bought five years ago to the store and then getting irate when the salesgirl didn't take them back. Glad I wasn't there to witness that.
The oldest thing I saw get returned was a Swiffer. The end had snapped, but it was so dirty and obviously used. The guy wanted a replacement. Luckily my manager gave him the number to Swiffer customer service. He just walked out of the store and left the broken dirty one to me.
Another guy tried to flash a reciept at me, w/o letting me check. So I knew something was up. I looked at the date, the receipt was a year old. He was trying to return something for cash without the receipt. He probably threw it away and somehow dug the old one up. he didn't get cash back and acted like he made some mistake.

The Idiot Manager at the garden centre was like that. No matter how unreasonable a customer was, he'd give in to their demands.

Most of the managers will say that the GC expired, or that the giftcard was being investigated by LP...
We had a big problem at my store when it closed that was solved by voiding what should have been BIG returns.
[2 $130 Igo power solutions, the people came in with the gc, and tried to buy an ipod nano iirc, when I ran it through and it was zero, the people didnt say a thing. They looked at each other, then looked at me, and then walked out; they even left the giftcard on the counter!]

Did she happen to work in the office at my old job? The people there were constantly letting customers return stuff that not only wasn't purchased from us, but stuff that we didn't even carry. Small wonder the place went out of business.
I remember having this conversation with one of them once.
Me: "Where'd this colored plexiglass come from?"
Her: "A customer returned it."
Me: "We don't sell colored plexiglass."
Her: Blank stare that was a combination of "deer in the headlights" and "oh shit."
