  • Apparently, I'm Unintentionally Rude

Not sure where this should go, but I'm sticking it here. I got a customer complaint today. Joy. According to customer bitch (CB from now on) I am rude, I look at customers like they're stupid (sometimes they are, but I digress), I don't greet them (bullshit), and she's been wanting to say something for a while now. She went so far as to have AM call her about it. Buh...just...wha? I had not a clue that I was "rude", not a single frapping clue! Also, if you have an issue with me, say something to me first, huh? Oh and you're complaining about how I look at you? What? I just...don't get it...At all. The greeting thing I have been working damn hard on. I mean, we have it drilled into our heads to greet and thank every single customer. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. AM warned me that if a customer decided to escalate their (moronic, piddly ass, in my opinion) complaints, that I'd probably be jobless. Great. Guess I need to bend over and kiss customer ass even more. Lovely.

You could literally kiss their feet & they would STILL complain about that.

Unfortunately, Bright_Star, you're right. If I could find a job that matched my current rate of pay, that I thought I might enjoy, I'd be so gone from C-Store though. I swear it.

To be honest, if a store clerk randomly came up to me and started kissing my feet I'd probably have an issue with that, too.

Me: Sounds like a job for Gravekeeper!
        Fiancee: What?!
        Me: Nevermind.

I'm sorry your management is obviously stereotypical and can't be bothered to investigate stuff like this. Ultimately they're going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of staff, and if this lady thinks you are rude, wait till she sees what she has to deal with then ...

Crossing my fingers for you that it all just goes away ...

Bren, I so understand. I go at breakneck speed because I have to, and it's sometimes perceived as shortness. It gets me in trouble a few times a year and now upper management is saying a complaint with one's name on it will lead to probation. I don't go elsewhere because other companies want to pay me 15% less than I make now, without benefits. I stay for the pay and bennies, and have to endure threats every other month. I just have to outlast the SCs and bad managers.

Oh, a kindred spirit, sort of! Glad I'm not the only one in this horrible boat! I have to say, though, I'm glad it was AM taking the complaint, and not Manager. I'm scared to think how SHE would've reacted to it.

For a second I thought I was reading something that I had posted because your post could easily pass for what I have to deal with at my job as well. I've also gotten bullshit complaints for those very reasons. I'm not naturally a smiley person and even when I'm not angry at anything I tend to have a "mad" face, especially when I'm concentrating on something. (runs in the family) You have no idea how many SCs have complained or accused me of being an asshole just based on how my face looks. Never mind that I make their sandwiches blazingly fast and accurate.

Yeah, at least my boss defended me to the last set of complainers. She usually does.

Sometimes I wonder if you and I work in the same place or share the same customers because I get accused of the exact same type of stuff by my SCs.

Well Tigress if it starts with a C and rhymes with Lacy's then yeah. Otherwise I guess it's just the (horrible) luck of the profession.

I sympathize. When I worked at Target I kept getting bizarre customer complaints just like those-when I'm never rude to customers. I was astonished, and super pissed. The complaints kept coming in until they fired me.
