  • You must have moved it on me again!

Like any large chain, stores are similar, but different. Depending on if the store built the space from scratch, bought/leased it from a previous company, had some weird space restriction, used a different design, etc. certain elements may be different store to store.

Recently I have have had several SCs ask where our restrooms are. Due to a combination of well, most of the above, our layout is different from several of our near by stores which were built/had major remodeling done to our specs.

    Are you sure SC
    SC: Where are the restrooms?
    M: <location>
SC: Are you sure? At <other store> they are by <location>
M: Well at this store they are <location>.
    SC: Why is that?
    M: I don't know.
SC: You should do something about that.
    M: ...

The SC wanders off in the direction of the restrooms at <other store>

You must have moved it on me again!
    SC: Where are the restrooms?
    M: <location>
    SC: You moved them again?
    M: What do you mean?
SC: well last week they wear at <location>, and the week before they were at <other location>.
M: No, they have always been in the same palace at this store for at least 10 years.
SC: Are you sure, because last week...
M: Nope. Haven't moved in years. Other stores may have that setup, but this one doesn't.

SCs even argue about the location of a bathroom.

Well the solution is simple, remodel the entire store to suit those people!

Our store is set up different from every other store in the area too. We are "backwards" in every way, including the restrooms. In our store the ladies room is on the right side and the mens on the left. All the other stores in the area have it the other way around. So often times, we will get people who try to go to the wrong restroom. Usually they notice before they walk all the way in, but other times, they get a surprise.

SC's just don't understand, same brand store but different store layout. Their brains just never compute.

We re-laid our ready meals, sausage bacon etc, completely rearranging the section and what do I hear every bloody day?"why do you keep moving everything?" KEEP yea right, keep moving.I have been on the section 5 years and it never been moved.

What is it they don't get about plumbing? Because the one thing I know for sure about sewer pipes and water pipes is that you can't just pick them up and move them to another spot in the building any time you feel like it.

It's also interesting that when they can't find the restrooms, their first reaction is not, "Oh, I'm mistaken about where they are." NO, it's "YOU DID SOMETHING!"

We get similar complaints every once in a while about our store layout, in which our frozen food section is the first 2 aisles (in most Litter Box stores they are on the far side of the store near the Dairy department.)

And the number of aisles differ from store to store. Just this past Thursday (and part of Friday) I was dispatched back to my old store to work the HBA delivery (their HBA Goddess took vacation and the managers forgot to check the calendar in the back, but I digress) and got totally turned around.

They had recently had a mini-renovation (due to the fact that the Teeter Peeter store that was on the other end of the shopping center closed down this past August) which involved new aisle headers, shortened aisles to that the back aisle was wider, and a total store reset, in which not only were a couple of sections moved to different parts of the store, the entire wine section was expanded generously (sadly, I didn't get quite enough time to peruse the entire department to see what they offer now, but let's just say I'd hate to have to do weekly price changes on that aisle. )

Took a bit for my brain to acclimate itself, but by the end of Thursday it wasn't too bad.

So yep, I can understand how a customer would feel . . . I think Corporate has different layouts for each store to confuse everyone and drive them insane.

Aw hell..Most customers have trouble grasping the concept that every store in the chain of c-stores I work in is different, much as the company TRIES to keep them the same. I can only imagine the confusion a big "super" store causes! Okay, okay, I'll just be honest...some people can't even grasp that PRICES vary from place to place...let alone store layouts!

We get that all the time as well. I'm so looking forward to this time next month. We're getting a major refurb. All the old refrigeration (shop floor and backup) is being torn out and the whole shop is being rearranged. Biggest change is the checkouts and entrance are moving to the opposite end to where they are now.

Im half expecting to come in one morning to find a small shrivelled body by the old exit, hand outstretched, pointing at what used to be a door.
