I've been coming to this site continually for a couple years to enjoy stories I can all too commonly relate to. I've been in food industry, hostessing, and now I'm a teller for a popular bank. This is my first thread! Yay! Who knows how many more stories I'll get worthy of sharing with my fellow people who deal with customers all day long!
This story happened the other day.
At the bank, if a check is drawn on our bank, we can cash it for non-account holders, but sometimes if the check is from a business, there might be a fee, typically 5 dollars. Some business checks charge, some don't. Its not up to me, its about that particular account. To get around the fee you need to have an account with us or deposit it into your own account a your own bank.
This girl, and her bf come in and wanted to cash a fairly small check (only around $100) that is written out to the guy... Throughout the whole ordeal the girl is the Sucky Customer and the boy just keeps his mouth shut. It was clear she wasn't letting her bf speak much..... Anyways, the check was drawn on our bank, but they did not have an account. I run it through the system and see that there will be a $5 dollar fee. I explain this to SC girl and she starts saying I'm a liar and that she has worked for multiple different companies that bank through us and cashes her check without fees all the time. I explain that to avoid the fee, she would need to have an account with us, but otherwise with this particular business account, to cash the check it would cost her. She kept insisting that I must not know what I'm talking about and point blank said, "let me complain to your manager." I smiled and said, "of course" and called my manager over....
Lets just say it was hard not to smirk while my manager responded with the EXACT same answers as I had given the girl, and she ended up paying the fee.
Another smaller story: An old man walks into the branch and says "I am angry with the banking system." (uhh oh.... here we go...)
So I begin to help him and he wants to cash a check that is written out to his wifes business, but the problem is, he's not a signer on the account. It doesn't matter if you claim someone is your wife, if you aren't a signer on her account, you can't cash a check written out to them. That could wayy to easily be theft or fraud. As I begin to explain this to him, he starts to raise his voice at me, so my manager comes over to help, and as she explains to (again the same thing I was starting to tell him) He begins to SCREAM (not just raise his voice, but scream very loud) "SHE IS MY WIIIIFFFEEE.... I WANT TO CASH THIS CHECK. SHE IS MY WIFE!!!!!!!!!!"
Mind you, me and my manager are both females, so our guy banker came over and said, "sir, you need to calm down or leave the branch", so the old man left.
Man... this was just this last week. Customers can be fun stuff.
