  • I forgot my mind reading today

Apparently this weekend everyone thought their barista was a mind reader....

    The first time
Supergirl: Hey how are you? What can I get for you? (Opening spiel)
    SC1: I'll have a green tea
SC1's wife: And I will have an iced black tea.
    Supergirl: No problem!

I make their drinks and put them on the landing counter and call them out.
SC1: Oh I wanted my green tea ices. I just assumed you would know.

Really? How would I know that? Did you say iced....or were just thinking it really hard in my general direction? I just smiled and said "No problem" and re-made it.

    The second time:
SC2: I wanna coffee with 2 pumps caramel and 2% milk
Supergirl: Did you want that milk steamed?
    SC2: Yes of course!
Supergirl: Alright about how much steamed milk would you like? (this is important to ask because up to a certain point we don't charge them for it. Halfway filled or more with steamed milk is called a Cafe Misto and has a different price)
SC2: I dunno (gives me a "why the hell don't you know" look)
Supergirl: Sooo (I'm holding up the cup as a reference for her now) how far up do you think? Like maybe one inch? Two inches?
    SC2: I dunno (rolls eyes) 1 inch.

Was that so hard? I wasn't asking for my own benefit I was asking so your drink would be made correctly and to your specifications.

And the weird question of the day:

SC3: I'll have a hot chocolate....Actually do you have the normal kind?
SC3's friends look at her like she's crazy
    Supergirl: By normal you mean?
SC3: (thinks about what she just asked, realizes it made no sense and looks sheepish) Never mind

      *sigh*
Why don't more people know the adage: "What does assume make out of you and me?"

Big pet peeve of mine... I actually got my GF to stop saying assume... she is AWESOME

QFT. I remember once an ex friend and me decided to load a whole bunch of cocoa mix in water and let it cool down to almost cold One sip and in the sink it went.

That's why I make my cocoa myself at home. Good quality (full fat) coconut milk, whisk in the cocoa powder, vanilla extract, touch of salt, stevia, and possibly raspberry, mint, rum or peppermint extract or even cayenne pepper. Serve warm, in a mug. No hassling baristas about "how dare you not make cocoa lactose intolerant!!!" or some other such.

I overheard someone say the local Starbucks made their hot cocoa with Half & Half. I need to try that some day.

Let's all say it again: Write down what you want, exactly how you want it.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Yes we can make hot chocolate with half and half! The standard is 2% but if we have the milk in stock we can make any drink with it. So you could have a soy-milk hot chocolate if u wanted . However we only have whipped cream made with heavy whipping cream (no soy whip, and no non-fat)

This would have thrown me off. I work at Dunkin, and the amount of milk or cream we put into anything is already decided based on the size of the drink. Most of my customers have no idea how much goes into each coffee.
