Guh. Most, if not all, Christian holidays have their roots in old Pagan traditions that they warped. People like that give me a headache.

....I'm half-tempted to draw that bondage boy santa.

I object to all this Santa Claus nonsense! Some of us don't recognize that holiday!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Hogswatch shopping to finish.

Can I come with? I need to buy some virgins for the sacrificial feast. I think H-E-B has the freshest ones, but then their produce is always fresher.

Santa Claus is a Terrorist. The Lord Christ is the only one who can save you from the sins you commit, not some jolly fat man with notions of grandeur.
This may possibly be the funniest thing I've read this year. Thank God I've never encountered anyone like that.

Unfortunately, I must agree. That letter is no joke. There are people like that. You see, I was raised by a fundamentalist mother.

That is part of why I'm a Wiccan now.

Does **Acme Company** endorse racism by hanging up pictures of some white man that, according to the story, breaks into people's houses while they sleep? Does Acme Company support this lying myth of a man that does not exist?
I'm willing to bet that the picture of jesus that they have hanging in their home is some white dude with long flowing brown hair and not looking at all of the ethnicity of that area.

The story of Christmas is 100% about the birth of Christ and though it is accepted that he was not born on this day, it is a day none the less for Christians to celebrate his undeniable virgin birth.
Granted but the feast of Saint Nicholas IS all about and elderly white guy going around leaving presents, we've seemed to have combined the two over the years in this country. In Europe they are still separate holidays.

Not to mention their problem with Santa, of European origin, being shown as white all the time, yet not a single comment about why Jesus is most often shown as a white European, when he was from the middle East......

But I must admit, never heard a fanatic who objected to Santa on the grounds of his yelling Ho Ho Ho, that one had me LOL.

                Madness takes it's toll....

I'm wondering how old the writer is. And how many years he/she has been shopping at this company's stores. And he/she has JUST NOW noticed the Santas everywhere??

The real Saint Nicholas went to prison for punching someone in the face at one of the infamous Councils. Does that count as terrorism? *halo* :P

The timing of Easter (based on the position of the moon) indicates a lunar festival.

The eggs, the rabbits, are fertility symbols. To encourage a good harvest.

I'm not saying that Christ's birth and death and resurrection aren't worth celebrating: quite naturally, the most significant events of the life of one's religion's most significant figure are to be commemorated.

But the timing and the ancillary symbology of the current 'Christmas' and 'Easter' celebrations are from pre-Christian religions.

                      1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
                      2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                      3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                      4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

When Rome (who had become christian mostly thanks to its then leader..I think Constantine?) was expanding like crazy they sought to placate the locals by taking the holidays they have and fitting them into the holidays the Romans celebrated. So you have some..odd combinations. Like eggs and bunnies. Heck Romes old gods were pretty much just Greek gods changed just a bit.

I'm trying very hard to keep my comments PC right now. Everyone has pretty much pointed out the major things I want to say. Pagan holiday, Saint Nicholas, etc. All I'm going to add is that Nutjob (sorry but he is) "Christians" like this are what unfortunately makes the religion look bad, especially around the holidays.

I'm an Atheist (That's all Ima say on my religious veiw)

I used to play a Harry Potter RPG on a message board on a movie website. We had a couple who were severe Jesus freaks and severe Bible thumpers, I mean they were over the top. See, he was one of those people who thought that the HP books encouraged witch craft. We kept explaining that we don't believe in the type of sorcery depicted in the HP books.. He'd get banned, he'd sign up under a different name, he'd accuse us of driving his wife to a nervous breakdown ( we did not viciously attack either of them, we just dismissed them). Ect, Ect.

Anyways, my point of the story is that the LW reminds me of that couple.
