  • Wanna be SC "tried" to tell me off :)... "tried"

So for those of you who dont know, i am a supervisor at a clothes store. Love my job, love the girls i work with, hate my SC's

However the customer who was starting to become an SC very fast got stomped..by me

So i see SC walk in, i already figure she wants to return something due to our bag she already has in her hand. Our return policy is pretty strict however theres a sign infront of each register stating what it is, a sign in the fitting room and at the front of the store, and its also written on their reciept just for them, AND we are required to tell them when they check out. I always state the policy to them, its more of a habit now lol but i always make sure to tell them. (Trust me, if you dont tell them it will bite you in the butt somehow.)

SC: Hi! I would just like to return this.

Me: Okay do you have the reciept with you? (I also notice the tag isnt attatched to the item which is required) Also just letting you know next time to make sure the tag is attatched, ill do it this time but next time whoever you talk to may not accept it.

SC: OHH i know! I tried it on so i took the tag off so i obviously didnt think i would return it.

Me: Okay no problem We only give out store credit so do you want to shop around first?

SC: (all the sudden very rudely) Are you serious!? I was never informed of that!

Me: (On our reciepts it has the name of the cashier who checked out the customer, i look at it and see my name ) I understand..

SC: Seriously why didnt i know that! Thats horrible to only give back store credit no one even told me!

Me: Well (pointing to the sign infront of her face) we have a sign right there...

    SC: Okay?!

Me: And its written right here on your reciept...

SC: Okay! Still if I worked here i would tell everyone!! Thats not right thats not fair i should have been told!

Me: (Fed up at this point) Actually, IM the one who rang you up, and I tell everybody. (Lol i smiled as i said this.)

SC: Okay....(she looked stumped at this point) still this policy is horrible.

Me: (Now very confident) I understand, but its not me who makes it, its corporate. So do you want the store credit?

SC: You do what you gotta do right? (still says very snotty, but knows she got stumped...by me )

    I cant lie...that felt good

I get a lot of those too. Our return policy is very clearly stated, but people choose not to read it. I do sometimes tell people about it personally if it sounds like they're unsure of their purchase, but we don't really WANT them to return things nor do we want them to think they'd have a reason to return them, so it wouldn't make very good business sense to give them some long speech about every detail of our return policy every time they shop. Sigh...

        Bravo! Encore!

I had someone tell me I'd told them that they could specifically use something invalid for a journey they never told me they were making; again, because it's something we all here know wouldn't be allowed it's something I always make known whenever there's a hint of it. Turns out I should have known that's what she meant when she asked about something else entirely that *would* have been covered... But again, it was a great feeling to sit back & watch her spiral down in flames

I love being able to tell SCs we can't do their return for whatever reason. And hate the ones that say "not even for store credit?" Um no. If I tell you its past our 90 day return policy that means I cannot take it back, under any circumstances. no credit, no exchange, ntohing. I'm sorry you don't like it, but take it up with corporate as THEY make the policies, not me.

What I do hate is my store will sporadically do final sales; on stuff that has been on sale for a while, then marked down quite a bit more. Now we have signs, its printed on the receipt, plus we all make sure the customer is aware of this before we ring them up. we will nicely ask if they want to try on the item as it cannot be exchanged or returned if its final sale. No ifs, ands or buts. I dread people coming in with bags to return during that time as there are always some who feel an exception should be made for them.

So last winter we had a woman come in, wanting to return some items she bought, but alas, they were final sale, and I politely told her that, and that I was sorry, but could not take them back. She kept trying to tell me "but no one told me that" Honey, you can repeat that as many times as you want, but it will not make me cahnge my mind as I can get into trouble for doing so.

So she starts swearing, and getting pissy, the manager tries to calm her down, but she is having none of it. So she stomps out, and i haer this noise and think she slapped the bag against a rack. Nope, she THREW the bag on the floor like a three year old, and stalked out. But what was funny is she had to come back in and retrieve her bag so she could call CS to see if they would let us take the items back. Which they don't as "no one told me" isn't a valid excuse. Funny thing is, we never heard another word about her or the issue.

Don't say that. It invokes Sukkor (tm), the patron God of retail harrassment to create even more SC's
