thats notmy worst return which is sad. I had a belt returned because it had poop on it. Its a good thing i grab NOTHING. then theres just the regular things people have posted about children being sat on the desk leaving behind extra treats. I get so many sucky customers in a day now i cant even rifle thru to choose which to post about.

When a friend of mine was checking this quilt over, she untwisted it and found out that it had recently been washed because it was still wet in the middle; and not only that, there was a pair of mens underwear stuck in it.
That reminds me of a story on the old board that involved an attempt to return a pair of women's jeans. The jeans looked dirty and seemed to have been worn though the customer insisted they were like that when she bought them. When the employee picked up the jeans, a pair of dirty panties fell out of the leg onto the counter. The employee pointed to the panties and handed the jeans back to the customer who just walked away as if nothing had happened and she did not feel embarrassed to have been caught like that or to have her dirty underwear shown to the public.

I know why they do it...they have nothing to lose

If you take the item back and give them money they win...if you refuse to take it back they take the item and go off to the next store to try again

Put up a very visible surveillance camera(with audio) focusing on the counter and the person in front of the counter

Once you realize they are trying to fraudulently return some item...ask for their information as though you will give them their money back(get it from their driver's license)

Once you have that point out(for the camera) exactly why you will not accept this return and tell them they are now banned from the store for...say three years...if they attempt to come back you will have store security publicly escort them out

Do this for the most egregious cases...super glued tags...dirty clothes being returned...any obviously used items and so on

Post a sign over the counter stating your new policy in language a five year old could understand

You will not be losing CUSTOMERS...you will be eliminating a few of the scammers...people who never had any intention of spending money in your store to begin with...let them "shop" at your competitor's stores

I know what your objections will be and all I can say is..I'd shop in a store with this policy and so would any other person who did NOT abuse the return policy of the average store and I'd bet cash money there are more of us than there are of the scammers

BTW The store managers might want to keep in mind...people like me actually spend their money and don't just "borrow" their stock and then return it to do all over again...accomadating the scammers gains you nothing but aggravation

My store has a "no refunds" policy. If you bought the wrong thing, oh well. You should have checked before you walked out the door. They try to return smokes all the time.

                  That's Just Plain Selfish

Wtf trying to return dirty diapers? Doesn't the customer realize that if the store was stupid enough to take them back, they might not be smart enough to realize that they were already used, and then they might put them back on the shelf... I shudder to think about what might happen after that!

I understand that a retail store is in essence a selfish entity. But that doesn't give people the excuse to be thoughtless and rude.

Geez. If you don't like how much money you make, *get a better job!* Yeah, that takes more effort than trying to scam your local retail store, but what's one of the biggest reasons why prices keep going up? Bingo.

I work with a guy that was once-upon-a-time a professional bass fisherman. He would buy brand-new, special order, high dollar rods and reels in late winter and return them in late fall for a full refund. I still tell him to this day he is the reason Wally-world changed their return policy. I don't know how many years WW unofficially sponsored his fishing career but he got away with it.
I really hate returning things so I tend to not do so and if I can't find some use for whatever I bought I'll give it to someone that can.
I also know one guy that bought, fired and returned shotgun shells or so he says. He said he filled them with gravel and crimped the end with his reloader and then took them back, I told him he was a thief and deserved jail.

Please tell me you declined her return...
You'd be surprised (working at Target) how many shirts we get (like Old Navy or Gap brand) in our returns bin that we don't carry. And you bet that the returns were approved since they were in the bin with the other clothes. Its not THAT hard to realize that (with clothes), we carry Mossimo, Merona, Cherokee and Xhilaration clothes ... and a few other smaller brands (but they do have tags with OUR item numbers in it!) No offense to the service desk workers, like the original poster, since I know they go through a lot more SC crap than us floor-workers, but it isn't that hard to memorize a few name brands ... I knew their names before I was even put in the clothing departments! I am surprised that our system accepted the barcodes on these 'foreign' shirts that we get in our returns bin!

I can't understand why anyone would want an edited version of The Sopranos...?
Thank WalMart for that, the only way they'll put Sopranos box sets on the shelf is if it's censored. Most customers don't pay attention to that fact, and just assume they're getting a better deal than the store I used to work in.

Oh I hear you. I work at the fitting room and I swear at least once a month I'll pull something out of a go-back cart and go "WTF?! We don't carry this!" What's even better is that sometimes we'll get clothes that are exactly like the ones we have out on the floor, but the brand name is different. Xhileration is the usual culprit as there is a brand in another store called F.L.I.P. (Faith Love (something I forget what the I stands for)and Passion, that looks exactly like it.
