I was in a similar situation a while back. Mom, sister and I went to local IHOP for dinner. We were informed at the door that all staff had called in, they had one waiter and one manager that was it. We were notified that there was at least an hour wait for food. We discussed it said we were hungry and were there had no place to be so what the heck.

We got our meal in about 25 minutes (long for breakfast but we knew that), kept encourging the waiter who was running his butt off to wait on 6 tables at once and left a $10 tip for him. Also filled out a customer comment card praising the way the sitatuion was handled. The did a great job and WE were the ones who chose to wait. The people in your instance were just SUCKY with a capital S.

Heres your freaking dinner.

Unbelievable that they didn't take the refund and two bottles of wine...

I would have done so promptly and made a night of it. Hell, the kids were already asleep!

To get rid of those people and ensure they never darken the door again, I think that's a pretty cheap price.
