Quoth camjuniper View PostI went to a concert back in high school where I (and many, many others) left before the headliner . . . . The headliner was Blink 182. And right before them? Green Day. Yeah, guess who like half the crowd REALLY wanted to see.

As 8:45pm got closer, one person told me it should have been advertised. I told them it was on various websites. They disputed this, saying it wasn't. I saw it myself - it had been up for several weeks, but she was adamant the running times were never advertised.
Meh. People read what they want to read.
I used to host "Rock Band Night" at a local restaurant. They had sent out an email to their customer list with the date and time and such.
One night a woman showed up with her son in tow, each carrying a guitar. I looked at them quizzically and asked what they were there for. The woman replied she was there for the "battle of the bands". I informed her that it was Rock Band - as in the Xbox 360 game. She insisted that the email had said battle of the bands and never mentioned video games and left in a huff. Her son looked bewildered but never said a word. Probably one of those kids who gets pushed into all sorts of competitions by a parent who never amounted to anything herself.
I later checked the email as I had gotten a copy as well. It said, clear as day, people could play against each other on Rock Band on the Xbox 360 on the big screen TV or some such thing.
Never saw the woman again, but I had always hoped she might come back some other time just so I could gloat.
Yeah, I'm a prick... but my attitude is the result of that which I am forced to deal with. If she had been polite about it I would have gladly asked them to stay and have fun. But, as per usual, it was everyone else's fault but hers.

Couple of year ago me and my friend went down to Gothenburg to watch Dropkick Murphys play. Sure, they said they had a supporting act, which is fine. What it didn't say was that they were bringing in 3 of them, 2 of them which were absolutely horrible, as in "throwing tomatoes" horrible. Because of this, and also because they couldn't get their shit together to start the show at the announced time, me and my friend missed a large chunk of DKM's show because we had a train home to catch. Still a bit angry about it.

Quoth Dave1982 View PostReminds me of the buzz kill who complained about people smoking pot........at a Cheech & Chong show.....
I wonder if these kind of people in the OP are the reason I now see on tickets Doors open 6:30 Opening band 7:45 Main Act 9.
Why back in my day, you were lucky if the headlining band started before 10 and and even luckier if they were anywhere close to sober.

Quoth auntiem View PostI once worked a Phish concert - the only ones complaining were the poor souls that had to work the balcony. We ended up having to cycle out staff every 20 min or so.I am not an a**hole. I am a hemorrhoid. I irritate a**holes!

We ended up having to cycle out staff every 20 min or so.[Rochester NY War Memorial Auditorium] though the Renaissance concert at the Triangle Theater in Rochester was killer, there was almost the same amount of pot smoke in the air as generated special effect smoke onstage. We had to hang out in the parking lot after concerts to sober up enough to be able to drive home.

when I used to go to concerts, (late 70's early 80s) the in-between-acts-time used to be filled people smokin it up (foghat indded), bouncing beach balls around the arena, throwing Frisbees around the place (I got one to fly from back to the stage),etc. most people (if they were NOT high beforehand) just sat round BSing and sucking in the free high.
the "entertainment" sometimes consisted of counting the number of people getting carried out on stretchers.
back in the day it was not uncommon for the headliner to start somewhere around 9:30 or 10pm but at least they played for a good 90 minutes PLUS a 3 or 4 song encoreI'm lost without a paddle and headed up SH*T creek.

Quoth BeenThereDoneThat View PostI think we waited about an hour for Bon Jovi last May, and they didn't have any opening bands...it was totally worth it though

I am compelled to post in this thread... cause dude, I've only ever been to two concerts. Ever.
But even then, I knew that the headliners weren't going to show up til I had to sit through and hour + of the opening band. Because, well, I have access to the internet, and it teaches me things. heh
(Yes, I didn't go to my first concert til I was 30. Woe is me, and all that. And it's not like people don't come ...to my area. Though, I did have to leave my area for both concerts. And now I'm rambling. Anyway)you are = you're. not "your".

Quoth Beckpatton View Posthahahahahahaha @ people expecting headliners to start on time! The time I went to see The Cult, the gits were over two hours late and there wasn't even a support act, just crappy muzak piped thru speakers.
I've also known concerts to overrun, even if they do start reasonably (by which I mean forty minutes to an hour) on time. When I went to see Alice Cooper, the concert overran and Fiance and I missed the last train back so we had to get the train to another town and get a taxi from there.
Ace Frehley did two encores when we went to see him; but he at least had the decency to play someplace other than Wembley Arena so Fiance and I had plenty of time to get the train.
Personally, I'd rather hang out at the bar than go and bitch to the staff about the band being late.
