A radio show announces commented on that for a concert tonight, here: They mentioned that the doors open for 5:30, the show starts at 6:30, and that there were 2 opening acts -- but that the main band was known for starting within a reasonable time period; thus, "don't show up at 10:30 and expect the band to still be there" ~_~

back in the day it was not uncommon for the headliner to start somewhere around 9:30 or 10pm but at least they played for a good 90 minutes PLUS a 3 or 4 song encore
Just went to a concert this last weekend (Nightwish) and the two openers had 40+ minute sets with 15-20 minutes for the changeovers. Then a solid wall of Nightwish for about 2 hours.

Honestly, of the 30 or so concerts I've attended, I can't recall a single show that started late. Or had technical difficulties, either, though one did cut off the singer's mic because the audience was too rowdy... throwing folding chairs at the stage really is a no-no... >_<

        So jealous!
I've been mostly to concerts of small Christian bands (on retreats and around town-Knoxville-when I lived there) but I'd love to see some metal bands.
So sad Despised Icon broke up a few years before I was introduced to their music. Though I'd be scared of the hardcore dancers in front of the stage. My boyfriend has told me of concerts where you could tell (after the concert) who was there by the amount of blood on them.

You want jealous, I had backstage passes when I went to the Iron Maiden Somewhere in Time show. One of the band (Adrian Smith) never showed to the party, but Bret Michaels was hanging out with the crowd.

Unless it's Meatloaf - in which case it's expected you're gone by the 4th song
Yeah, but this is Meatloaf we're talking about, here...Four songs is what, 90 minutes?

(Yes, I didn't go to my first concert til I was 30. Woe is me, and all that. And it's not like people don't come ...to my area. Though, I did have to leave my area for both concerts. And now I'm rambling. Anyway)
Makes me feel better the first concert I went to (as a patron) was when I was 25!

My boyfriend was 30-something when I dragged him to his first concert.

I, on the other hand, was being taken to concerts since I was 6 or so. I was 9 when I first paid for my own ticket, and that was to see Pink Floyd while they were touring The Wall.

My first concert was to see a GnR tribute band. XD

The band that always shows up on time is Magnum; they've never been late ever and I've seen them about five times. The Cult is still the latest; and they have no business being over two hours late seeing as they're not that big any more.

I have to say, I've never had any trouble being right at the front; then again, I'm tall and can hold my own fairly well. When Fiance and I went to see Dio, there was this huge bloke who fainted halfway thru the set. The entire venue was packed solid and it was boiling hot, so I guess he had too much beer and not enough water. I also remember seeing bands before the smoking ban where there'd be a shoulder height smoke fug hanging around, and anyone who left the venue after the show would smell of smoke and sweat, evenly mixed. XD

I think I'd feel better about my lack of...concert going, if I lived in BFE.

Ah well. I am just happy I got to see my favorite band, twice.

I didn't go to concerts until I was in college, partly because I had no money and partly because my parents were overprotective so when I lived at home I couldn't stay out late. I've been trying to make up for it over the last 25 years or so, though

To those getting a late start in concerts, you're not alone. The major ones I've been to were Genesis in 1987, 1992 and 2007. Have also seen Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Most of the concerts I used to go to were of my friend's band in high school, but it was at the under-21 nights in seedy clubs. While waiting I got to play video games and mingle with the sluts that used to ignore me in school. The little venues were great, but I just hated coming home late on a school night smelling like Marlboros.

I can't recall issues waiting for a set to start. For the 1987 Genesis concert everyone was tailgating outside, drinking beers, cooking food, waiting in line to pee. I was 14 and it was my first experience so I didn't know what to expect. The 2007 concert was pretty good, but not great. I never had issues waiting, because my buddy and I talked about music, concerts that each of us went to when we were younger, curiosity in seeing the age genres also attending. Nowadays with smartphones I think people would just kill the time by playing games...

The last concert I went to, there was a lot of waiting. Most of us fans waited all day long outside the venue--which was an outdoor venue, a bridge actually, since the amphitheater it was supposed to be at was flooded--then we waited in between the opening act and headliner a good 45 minutes or so. You know what? I had a blast. I met some amazing people there. You know what we did while we waited for the headliner? We had a giant dance party, singing along with the songs they were playing over the speakers there. I have never had so much fun in my life. I laughed when one venue tried to make this particular artist's fans sit down and not be so "rowdy". Said artist took to Twitter to berate the venue, saying that his (and other) concerts are meant to be fun, and he WANTS his fans to get up and get into it. My point? Instead of being a bitch while you're waiting, try having some FUN for once...You might actually like it! *le gasp*

Let's see... I've seen BNL, Great Big Sea, Rob Stewart, Phil Collins, Blue Rodeo (same show as one of the GBS concerts), and Weird Al, all in Ottawa (Well the BNL concert was in Waterloo; a private show put on by RIM for RIM and UWaterloo Mathies and Engies).

Then I had a dry spell, but since the Maritimes have become a destination for acts, I've been seeing more shows. I saw the Stones in a rainy show in Halifax, the Eagles in Moncton, and Elton John also in Moncton. (Great seats for that one too; a row or two back from the ice surface where the stage was set up).

Did they all start on time? I honestly can't remember now. I do remember having a fantastic time at the shows, even the rainy one and the hot as hell ones.

I was at a concert that went from like 12 pm-10 pm. Then stalked the tour busses till they left at 3 am. Other concerts I get there semi late cause I hate the opening bands that played or had to work. Last concert I went to was the day before Thankgiving and worked all that week. Thankfuly people understood why I was tired the morning of. Worth every hr of no sleep.

The only big-name concerts I ever went to see was Joan Jett at the county fair and Jimmy Eat World at college. Neither kept us waiting too long for the headliner, IIRC.

There was also Dustin Diamond doing stand-up comedy. I hate myself for subjecting myself to that.

Otherwise my concert-going experiences were limited to garage shows of a friend's metal band, which performed such hits as "Kiddie Porn" and "Skippy The Magical Anal Sex Machine."
