Happens all the time at the call center. Part of my opening spiel is to ask for the person's name, and of course just a first name is fine, but if I need to look up an order or verify the person's info - yeah, I'm gonna need a little more to go on. It's not that hard, people.

Today in the training class I'm in we listened to a couple of previously recorded calls. One agent got a guy who said his name was John. She said (as we are trained to do) "So that is J-O-H-N, correct?" and he said "J-O-H-N-N-Y, yeah.". He was a nice guy and all that, but geez, pick one!

Hang on,was her last name Pond?
I was thinking more like Amy Pond would never be that stupid and she'd probably slap the shit out of the OP's "Amy" for sullying the intelligence of anyone else with that name
"I was only LOOKING, I didn't mean to enter my card's CVV and actually ORDER! REFUND ME RIGHT NOW!!"

My forename was the most common at my school; in my yeargroup there were 7 of us, and in my class alone I was 1 of 3! Then when I joined the military, I was billeted for a time with someone who not only shared my first & last names, but also my middle initial! That's when military organisation kicks in, & we were both known solely by the last 4 digits of our service numbers for 3 months
LOL, For the last 5 or 6 years of mrDrones enlistment there was a guy on base with the same first and last names and same middle initial, different middle name but same initial.
EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

*laughs* Yeah, first names just do not cut it unless it is really really unusual. Something like Bobharrysusanliptenstein or something. Even then you will have to spell it. The system we use needs at least 3 letters of a first name and 3 letters of a last if we have to search by name.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.
