  • It's a public computer; get your own if you want unlimited access

So again, problems with the second floor work-lookin' computers. There are two of them.

I replace my cw and he says a woman wanted to use a computer when one person's time is up. He gave me her name and when he told her to come back. The other person on the computer just got on.

Of course, the person on the computer wants me to extend her time, and I have to explain that someone is waiting to use the computer, so I can't extend her time.

Of course the person waiting went away and hasn't come back.

Of course the person I kicked off the computer is miffed and cranky that I kicked her off but no one is using the computer. At that point the second person got off the computer so miffed person tells me, "now there are two computers unoccupied!"

I offer to get her on the computer again, but she gets huffy and says she is being abused.

I would have told her, "use the computer until the other person comes back," but then it would happen that the other person probably is watching and then bitch to my manager that I didn't kick off the person, she was promised a computer at x time.

    Sigh.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    I wish porn had subtitles.

    Timing

When I go to Florida, as a non-resident I am only allowed one hour on the computers. The library is right beside a school and they get preferred over me. Yet time and time again I keep getting my time extended. Best time has been over three hours while being extended every 15 minutes. I thanked the monitor for the extra time too.

My secret? I am polite to the person who monitors the computers, and I always try to time it so I don't come when the computers are busy.

That sucks. People find all kinds of ways to bitch about needing more more more.

It makes me really glad we've got reservation software on our patron computers. If no one's waiting, you can automatically extend your time. If not, the person on the longest gets booted when their time's up! It's got a few flaws, but it really helps with the complainers. "Sorry, that's the way the system is set up!"

At my local library you have to swipe your library card to get online, the rules state you get an hour at a time with a max of 2 hours a day. It unspoken that if there is no waiting list you can sit there all day.
