Oh, absolutely. He got off lucky, in my opinion. A shot in the chops was justified. Heck, it was ASKED FOR.

The next job I applied at was a Subway. At the interview I was asked why I was fired from the pizza place. I replied "I punched out a customer". All she said was "Well dont do that here, okay."
I almost broke rule #1!!! Of course it's not cool to punch out a customer, but he walked into you and then punched you. Kinda hard to just let someone do that to you.

His reaction, he punched me right in the face. I saw red. The other busser ran over to break up the fight he thought was coming, but one punch from me knocked the customer out cold, and into a table.
Wow, I would have loved to have been eating there that day.

Shortly after I began my nightmare in retail hell, a dirty, filthy, toothless POS spit right in my face because I refused to give him a plant at the same sale price another plant was going for.

When I reported him to the store director, another co-worker was sent over to apologize to that toothless POS and give him what he wanted. I was given a 'talking to' by the store director. (The first of many, I might add.)

That's when I knew exactly how Meijer views it's employees.

For the future, if this ever happens to you, approach your local labor board and make a complaint about being forced to work in a hostile work environment. Those three words scare the begeezus out of Sucky Managers.

Any customer who spits on an employee is not worth retaining, no matter how much he/she spends there.

So nice to see that your manager has been so whipped into rewarding that kind of behavior.

And I'll second allniter's recommendation of complaining about a "hostile work enivronment." As I like to say, you do not sign away your right to be treated like a human being when you accept a job.

I'm not particularly physical, so there's no way I would have hit him. However, I would have gotten his license plate and filed a charge of assault with the local police.

I don't care what you can or can't get from spit, it's classed as a high-level of assault practically everywhere.

I let myself get walked over a lot when I was a teen, but no way, no how would anyone ever touch me and not live to regret it.

I know it is lowest of the low for a man to hit a woman, but I was thisclose to making an exception.
Any woman who attacks a man deserves anything she gets in returen. I've know too many bitches that would beat up on their boyfriends just because the guy had that outdated "never hit a woman" thing stuck in his head. Once a woman starts something, the kid gloves should come off.
