We got a guy who buys about 13,000-30,000 a week. Guess what perks he gets? We do his shopping for him and he comes in and pays. No discounts.
Fan? This is shit. Shit? Meet fan.

Heh. I think I had someone like that ONCE at the wholesale club. Buying a whole bunch of food items, and it wasn't one of our regular business or tax-exempt purchasers.

Guy had like $500 or so on his order, and hinted at maybe getting a discount because he was buying so much, and insinuated this would be the biggest order I've ever seen.

To which I said, "Actually, no. Last year, I rang up a $4000 order that did not feature any big-ticket items or anything like that. He didn't get a discount either."

      Discount-fisher shut up then.

$500? Any big party 25 or more people can easily top that. He must not have many friends.

we see that in their entire order history it's been about $1000...it's just SO hard not to laugh at them.
Why is it that SCs don't think that companies keep databases on them.

Good question. It never occurs to them that you can look up their history and tell them exactly what they've spent.

I love when a customer says "It never cost that much before! You raised the rates!" and I can look at their account history and tell them they actually paid MORE for their last 8 ads. Shuts them up real quick.

It's just too bad I can't SAY things like that to our customers...I have to let them think they're hotshots...oh well
"I was only LOOKING, I didn't mean to enter my card's CVV and actually ORDER! REFUND ME RIGHT NOW!!"

The less they spend the more they think they're entitled to. I get far more whining proportionally from people using our freeware products than our biggest paying customers.

We had a customer suggest that we fly our *only* tech support person out from Massachusetts to California to personally "fix" his problem. He didn't feel he should do troubleshooting on the phone like everyone else since, you see, he'd bought an entire 5-user license and therefore was a very big customer.

              Ass.

I pointed out that we don't even do that for our many customers who'd purchased 100, 200 or 300 seat licenses. Well, actually we have, but they were willing to pay very good money for the extra service. Oh, he wasn't pleased at all to have that fact pointed out to him.

I never understood the idea of getting a discount if you "buy a lot." The only time I can see a purpose is if a business is trying to keep a long-term customer, like the hotel in the OP's story. It would be worth a small discount in order to keep someone who will consistently spend $4k+ in your store.

However, if Mrs. Dimm down the street comes in and pays the occasional $200-$500, what's the point?

Not much, really, but it made her happy, and we know she'll talk us up to everyone at the party she's throwing. Could mean more customers.
Word of mouth from a good and happy customer means a lot, esp. in your line of business.

Memories from the gas station again.

Because I got the privilege of having to wait on rude assholes all day long and serve them their precious ciggs, beer and gas, they felt like they should have discounted coffee or even discounted gas. Hahaha, I don't get discounted gas. Fuggettaboudit.

Oh, and the idiots who every day scrunged through the car and couch to pay for smokes or one gallon of gas....yeah, sorry, your pack a day habbit isn't really the reason the store stays in business. Take that attitude back to your nasty neighborhood you just walked from.

Absolutely. And she ended up buying another 2.5 cases of wine to add to the 3.5 cases of wine she'd already bought. She could have bought from a store in NYC, but preferred using us because we take care of her and make her happy.

But she didn't expect any extra discounts. She would have been fine with the normal discount. The extra one was just icing on the cake.

Heck, I've managed to have a total at $clubstore ring up at something over $700, once. Of course, I was buying a TV and renewing 2 memberships at the time, but still.
