  • You don't deserve to have a job

So I recently found out that my job was closing. We have been having huge store closing sales. You would think getting toys at up to 90% discount would make people happy. So wrong. They are being more rude than I thought they could be. The first customer came up with gift cards and wanted to know if they were part of the sale. I knew there was no way they could be so I told him no. Of course that was not the answer he wanted. So I called a manager up. After she told him that gift cards were not part of the sale he got really mad. He then shouted at me that I had horrible customer service and that i deserved to not have a job. He also in formed me that with the way I treated people I probably would not be able to find a job, and would be a drain on resources.

Oh, ya, really mature there. Guy doesn't get what he wants, so he decides to resort to childish name-calling and verbal bullying. Forget him. He's just a dick (with a small one, methinks, with that kind of attitude) who doesn't know how to behave at a maturity level beyond 8th grade.

isn't that the standard operating procedure of a sucky customer? IF they don't get what they want then bitching out the associates till they get blue in the face till somebody with no back-bone gives in OR leave the store with threats, intimidation & put-downs.

His comments are so utterly ridiculous that I can't take him seriously. He's just spewing, and it doesn't make any sense at all. Sad, really. I wonder how he deals with real problems....

I swear, some SC's wouldn't be satisfied if you paid THEM to take inventory away.

They'd still find a way to complain about "customer service."

Crap, that's seriously pathetic. I know six-year-olds who are more mature than that.

*offers chocolate covered espresso beans* Ouch! When MW started closing stores, one of the things that happened was that all the gift cards.. became worthless. Imagine this baboon's back end if he HAD bought all those gift cards "on sale," only to find them to be as good as the plastic they're pressed on...

"Sir, I'm only losing this job because my higher ups don't think we ought to be dealing with jerks like you." It's nice to dream you can say that.. isn't it?
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

You have my sympathies, working during liquidation is a whole new low in suck. If it weren't bad enough putting up with deal-mongers and the desperate, you also have perfectly normal people become utterly insane customers.

                  My thoughts?
                  1) Look for work now. If you get another job, leave immediately. Your loyalty to your former workplace earns you nothing but pain. When Media Play went through it's final throws, my only regret is that I stayed 'til the bitter end. I did it out of loyalty and it wasn't worth it.

                  2) Don't take it personally. You'll have customers yell and scream, hurl insults and wish bad things upon you - just because you won't give them a discount or let them steal. They're the problem, not you.

                  3) Pace yourself. With fewer employees, tons more pressure, and upset, angry customers, you can get burned out mighty quick. Pace yourself so it doesn't happen. This is a difficult and emotionally-draining circumstance, go slow if you have to and limit interactions if you have to. You no longer have to answer the phone within 3 rings, help every customer find the gotta-have-perfect-gift, etc. You are no longer required to make every customer happy. Pace yourself and you'll be all right.

                  4) Don't expect any customers to sympathize with you losing your job. When I told customers that giving a further discount would be stealing on my part, I was told "So what? You're going to lose your job anyway, hyuk hyuk." Worse, these were perfectly normal-looking shoppers and it happened hourly.

Do what you need to in order to get by and you'll be fine. I'm sorry you're losing you're job.
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

BB, I'm sorry you're losing your job and even sorrier you have to deal with people who insist upon being assholes. You'd think a little compassion and decency towards a fellow human being in hardship would be in order, but noooo...

bainsidhe has some excellent advice. I'd like to add, don't forget to take care of yourself. While you are hunting for another job and working, don't run yourself into the ground. Take at least one day a week completely off, do something you enjoy, hang out with friends or just vegetate around the house. These are stressful times and far too many people are burning themselves out; you don't want to do the same.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
