  • It's city policy, not mine

A couple weeks ago I wrote about a guy, pissed off that I wouldn't sell him more than three cans of spray paint, that told management I called him a tagger. Last Monday, I was bitched at by a woman who was pissed off that we can't sell spray paint after 8 pm, when it was almost 9 pm. This has been the policy for the past few months, and I though it was store policy. But as I was informed by the manager who just stood there and let me take the heat for the angry woman, it is city policy. So yeah, I've been getting bitched at for city policy, which I definitely cannot change for anyone.

Personally, I wish we would just stop selling spray paint. I'm getting tired of getting bitched at by people who want 12 cans when we can only sell them three, and people coming in at 8:05 mad because I can't do it after 8.

Blame it all on the wannabe gang members in the area, that's why the city had to start doing it this way. That's also the reason why we don't sell ammunition in my store, but that is the topic of an entirely different rant

It kind of bothers me that American cities don't seem to want to treat their citizens like adults. Unfortunately a great number of us don't act like one.

Seems to me like taggers could just buy their spray paint before 8 pm like everyone else...but I guess they don't, or your city wouldn't have this by-law. I suppose taggers aren't well-known for their future planning skills.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

I agree, I can see not selling/restricting sales to kids under 18, even 21, but when Soccer Mom/Mr. 50yo Home Improver can't buy paint because it's 8:07 pm, that is getting a little ridiculous.

Just wait until the smart taggers figure out how to use non-spray paint... or those really thick markers.

Wait a minute, "smart taggers"? No such thing....

Dude! Finger paints give my tagging all sorts of freedom, plus, they don't bleed at the edges as badly! However, they don't dry very quickly, and the damn things dribble all the way to the ground...

I dont think that the city can regulate spray paint. Special laws have to be made for the purpose of 'regulating', i don't think they just can 'make' rules for common items.

                  my 2 cents.

It's already being done. Taggers here will write on anything and everything--sides of buses, light poles, mailboxes, railings, etc. So far, nobody's had the balls to use one on the front of a subway car...

I just thought of this, back at Chesterfield, I loved *rolls eyes* just how many teenagers would come through the store, go for the porn, and, when I'd ask for their ID, they'd get: 1) defensive, 2) angry, and 3) would ask when we made the rule that you have to be 18 to even be in the porn.
Hmmm... let's think about that... that's a state law, moron. Not our decision, just we can get in big trouble if an inspector were here and we didn't card you.

I realized later it's a national law, not just a state thing. So, it's not like these kids didn't know.

You could always ask people if they'd pay your fine, if you got busted for disobeying the city laws. I know what you mean though I hate it when people get angry at me for following state/local/national law.
