Nemesis is right: if you're going somewhere where you don't trust the water, you have multiple redundancies planned.

I wouldn't have just two - I'd have three or four ways to purify water, either with me, or readily available. And one of those would be a makeshift still!

But then, I'm not an Entitled Customer.
    Seshat's self-help guide:
    1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
    2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
    3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
    4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

She sought legal advice? Over a (supposedly) faulty WATER BOTTLE? I wonder what happens when she has a REAL problem.
As usual, you've posted what I was thinking.

When my friend and I go camping we both have our own (very different design/make of) water filters, we also carry the pills to add to water for drinking and we carry a small gelled-alcohol stove which we can boil water on.

Our first year taught us a lot about only having one way to do things.

When hubby and I travel, we have 4 different ways to purify water. All except one are carried in a standard bag (kinda hard to carry fire in a backpack) and at MOST weigh a pound total.

Reminds me of the 'customer' I dealt with when I worked for "car manufacturer".
She called at 7 PM (Pacific time) the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. She was getting ready to drive from someplace in Arizona (I think) to someplace in Utah. Her car was making a strange noise, and we were going to be sued because we were big meanie-heads & wouldn't pay for a rental car. Over the course of my conversation with her, I learned several important facts.

              1. The car was outside of any warranty
              2. She had bought the car used, when it was already out of warranty.
              3. Nobody had even looked at the car to try & diagnose anything.
              4. All the car rental places & repair shops were closed at that hour of the night.

              and the clincher...

              5. The car had been making this 'strange' noise for at least 6 months, during which she had been driving it without a care. But suddenly, now that they're taking it on a road trip, we have to provide her with a rental car.

Needless to say....she did not get her rental, and we never saw a lawsuit.

But I love watching those cases when they come on court TV shows

So she knows where she expects to end up in 22 days? And presumably has a hotel booked, a friend to see or a location that she is going to be in at that point?

Send it to the friend or the hotel. Pick it up in 22 days. Thank the company for spending their funds to get it to you. Blame yourself for not sorting this out sooner or having other methods of purification available.

Sorry, forgot, Super-SC wants you to beam a replacement to her there and then. /facepalm.
I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

On the lighter side, I have this wonderful image of an ad for Nemesis' company (who obviously DO go 'above and beyond' for their product) with a Bond-esque chase scene between a helicopter and a train rolling through the South American countryside culminating in a company rep dangling from the helicopter's rope ladder rapping on a compartment window to hand the SC a new filter bottle....
