Other "cards" to play

In my own experience, I find that the "I've been shopping here for-EV-er" card and the "I-know-the-manager-so-I'm-going-to-make-a-corny-joke-about-him-to-show-you-how-we-go-waaaay-back" (example, "Have you got any work out of ol' (manager's name) today? chuckle, chuckle, giggle") are the most common. Oh, also, the "They let me do it before!" card.

I've got some fun ones for you...

"Oh, well, you have to do this for me because you're just a spoilt college kid and I'm a working stiff." Yeah, sure, buddy. Because, y'know, working 30+ hours a week waiting tables on top of doing all the stuff for massage therapy school in addition to dealing with near-daily migraine headaches is a vacation. This one's kind of a variation on the "but I'm a local!"

"You wouldn't understand why you have to do this for me because you're overeducated." Yes. I have actually heard this one. In almost those exact words. The rather portly, under-dressed fellow who said it clearly felt that his decision to drop out of school in sixth grade because school was "too hard" merited free cigarettes and discount gas. I'm still kind of in shock over this one, and it happened over a year ago.

I know we should all revere and respect our elderly the way they do in, say, Japan....but I have a feeling if more people understood how ignorant and flat out rude and nasty most elderly are, they'd understand why we don't listen.

ABSOLUTELY right on the money. I have the misfortune of living in SW Florida (long story) and the people down here are some of the RUDEST shits I've ever met. Very entitlement-minded and quick to get bent out of shape with you when items ring up "wrong" or some such.

I prefer the behavioral treatment: You act nice, I act nice. You act like a wanker, don't expect any favors from me.
