Do you know, I first heard that song as a healthy 16-year-old male, and never made the connection to what she was really singing about until I was 40.

I figured that one out back when the song came out (I was around 16 myself then.)

I heard it too, but could never make out the lyrics anyway, and since i didn't have the album, I too learned later in life what it all meant. i think it was actually either VH1's Pop-Up Video where i learned it or one of the I Love the 80's shows.

I didn't either, but that was probably because it wasn't a favorite of mine and I never paid too much attention to the lyrics. I actually read about it later and then said, "oh."
