In my store we have an alcohol section close to the tills. It has CCTV and there is a CCTV monitor in the section, to deter theft, and one near the tills so cashiers can see people in the alcohol section.
Vodka seems to be the item that is most stolen from there, so we count it every night and check sales on the computer. Thats how i've learned the code for it.

I was on till, looked at the cctv monitor and saw two girls with some shopping standing suspiciously in the alcohol section for ages.
When they thought no one was looking, one of them lifted a bottle of vodka and stuffed it up her top/down her pants.
They then went to my checkout.
Their shopping came to about £12.00
    The vodka was £11.00
I scanned their shopping, typed in the code for vodka and told them the total is approx £23.00
They paid, then stood at the side of the till and checked their receipt. Suddenly they just walked off without saying a word.

I would just hope they were old enough in the first place to buy it or it can come back on you for selling to underage. If they were, good job.

That's beautiful! I'm not sure I could have kept from laughing at them when they checked the receipt. Don't know how you managed it.

The OP reminded me of this video about shoplifting in a cashless society.

Thanks everyone, I was proud of that one

I'm used to having to keep a straight face round customers, because of 2 reasons.
                        1) Theres a guy I work with who will stand behind people when I'm serving them and make stupid faces, or offensive gestures and I have to force myself not to laugh.
                        2) I speak a bit of Polish (studied in Poland for a while) and we used to have 2 Polish people working with us, and we always talked about SC's in Polish right infront of the SC. Needed a straight face for that too!

Very true. Even though they 'stole' it in view of the camera, unless that camera was recording footage that can be played back later, you would be screwed if they were underage, and decided to come back against you for it, since their sales receipt does indicate the sale of that vodka. Best to call in LP instead, if at all possible.
