This is making me miss the good old dungeon crawls. Traps and creatures around every corner, mysterious unlocked chests (Hint..if it is unlocked..it is either empty..or a trap), trying to figure out where a skeleton kept those few silver pieces I found..and maybe not WANTING to know...

Regardless if it was a critical hit backstab, or a backfired fireball..it was always exciting..too bad nobody around here plays *sighs*
I kind of don't miss the "Wizard and Side Kicks!" thing that older D&D had though. Freaking Wizards, not EVERYONE wants to be a wizard!

It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.

And if you have one really sadistic DM, if it's cute and cuddly, don't kick it. Please don't. The rest of the party will feed you to the cute and cuddly in an effort to survive, while throwing their dice at you in RL.

Ah, I miss playing any sort of table top game. If I knew enough people in my area who like table top roleplaying, I'd even be willing to DM. And throw dice at people taking too long to tell me what they're characters are doing.

And my 10 year old knows the what both forms of D and D are. He's also somewhat familiar with World of Darkness (old, not the new) and the difference between what a MU* is and MMOs are. Of course, I also taught my child the difference between a cassette tape, VHS and even the vinyl are.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

AmbrosiaWriter At high levels? Yeah, magic users were near godlike. Low levels? Good luck surviving. 4hp and tissue paper for protection? Yeah..not a good combo.

raudf *laughs* Oh god, I remember a gweeble. If you want to know what a gweeble is, it is a little furball that tavern owners use to clean their bars. At least the BABIES were. They would sweep down the bar, and clean everything in its way..if your arm blocked it, it would spit at you. Let it go...whatever you do, just let it go. After all, it was ridiculously cute. It was NOT the problem, though. When one would die, it would let out a squeal..and then mama would come out. Mama was 9' tall, and its hide was as tough as metal. If you know the movie critters..imagine a 9' tall one of those with a hide tough as steel. It was a wreaking machine...and it was gonna get whoever killed the baby..so just throw them to it, run, and hope it is satisfied.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

First & Second editions would be worth something I believe. Past that is when D&D become a bit more popular and so many more books were printed and so the value of them has gone down, especially since many people still prefer 3rd and 3.5 over 4th (which I don't understand, but whatever, it's their choice lol.)
          Hijack/
The anti-4th people I know feel as though 4th is geared towards fans of online games like WoW, etc. I wouldn't know because I don't play MMORPGs. I felt that it was more computer and print out reliant and was lacking something compared to 3/3.5 and now Pathfinder. Plus I don't particularly care for the fantasy setting anymore. I'm more interested in sci-fi settings like Dark Heresey (40k) and Star Trek. Cyber and Steampunk settings seem interesting too.
          /end Hijack.

I have a friend who has taught his kids to play as well. He occasionally offers them bonus experience points for their characters to get them to go to bed on time.
using geekiness to get kids to behave! I love it

Lol! Yeah, I've discovered that people have got pretty intense feelings about it. You can always pm me with what you wanted to say. I'm fairly apathetic about the whole "edition wars".

In my day, there was basic D&D, and Advanced D&D, which everyone called A.D.&D....
Ya know, the term "A.D.D" means something completely different today >_>

The Gold Box games on c64 got me into it, tho my first pnp edition was AD&D 2e. Note that Wizards is currently reprinting AD&D 1st ed with new covers.

House rule for ANY game from an old group:

If [something the DM forces on your party] looks cute and defenseless, kill it. If you can't kill it, run. If you can't run, nuke the planet.

I work at a board game/Card game/rpg store. Had this one kid come in and this conversation.

                        CB: clueless boy
                        Me: well you know

Me: ya, that is the new pathfinder rpg, its sort of like D&D
CB: You mean its the book version of D&D?
Me: Umm, D&D is a book based tabletop game
CB: Really? I never knew. I thought it was a video game.

Dammit, I remember when there was no such thing as video games. Crazy kids these days.

I grew up in a household with the adults gaming (aD&D 2nd ed) just about every weekend - starting at 12-2pm on sat. and going until 2-3 am sun.

then i got roped into it....

then I took a 10 yr hiatus, and am just now getting into my 1st RPG since - Vampire.... (world of darkness? WhiteWolf? what are the kids calling it these days?) and I'm having a lot of fun with her...

more kids need to watch this
this one is for the old skool folks
