I haven't posted about this customer because we *thought* he had learned his lesson. But we were wrong
Ever since I have worked at this store, this person has been coming in and demanding special treatment. For example, he didn't have transportation for a long time, so he walked to the store. Because of that, he wanted all of his purchases to be TRIPLE bagged. Okay, I understand that - you're walking, you want to make sure stuff doesn't rip through your bags. But ... even when all you're buying is a few boxes of candy???? That is just unnecessary waste of resources (not to mention it costs the store money to replace those bags so that other customers can get them).
About 6 months ago or so, I started to see a pattern with his purchases. He would come in and buy THE most expensive candy boxes that we sell, and pay for them with EBT/SNAP/food stamps, whatever it's called in your area. Okay, I don't have a problem with that, as such. However, he would then, within a day or two, return that candy without a receipt. Returns without a receipt means you get a store gift card. Fine.
A few days after that, he would come in with this gift card and buy non-food items. So, in essence, what he was doing was scamming the food stamp program so that he could buy non-food items, while getting the state to pay for them. (I hope this makes sense - he was using food stamp money to buy the things he really wanted).
Once I realized what he was doing, I went to Store Manager about it. Why didn't anyone else?? I don't know. Anyway, SM said that he is no longer allowed to make any returns without a receipt. SM stated it was clear that he was scamming the system and it wasn't going to happen anymore. YAY!
Cue 6 months later ... yesterday. This person *has* learned his lesson, in that he no longer buys candy and tries to return it. However, yesterday just proved that he hasn't learned anything at all
He came in to the pharmacy and wanted oxycotin (sp?) He NEEDED it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When asked how he would pay for it, he said (and I kid you not) "I can pay for it tomorrow! You can keep my driver's license to make sure I come back and pay!!"
REALLY?????? Excuse me while I
In what universe did you think this would be alright? And especially with the fact that oxycotin is a heavily controlled substance? AND your previous history of scamming the system?
I have no words. That is all.
