I would slightly prefer..."After having the template pulled, and receiving a legal notice, the site owners wised up, called (or emailed..or you know the drill) and apologized profuselypaid the licensing fee."
Fixed that fer ya -- I think that's even more preferable.
But..from the sounds of the SC's..they are not that bright
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...
"Oh, hey officer. I didn't know the car was stolen when they sold it to me, so I get to keep it, right?"
Strangely enough, that matches with something I've heard about Russian law. If someone is caught driving a car that was stolen OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY, it starts a statute of limitation clock ticking. If the owner doesn't claim it (which would require that the owner know that the thieves sent it to Russia) within one year, they get title to it.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

In Soviet Union, car steals you!

i am wonder if they knew it was YOU they were contacting - I mean if they knew it was your code in the first place like they claimed or not. I'd like to think they weren't so stupid as to buy or steal code and then contact the coder to cut a deal.
but then again we are talking about your customers. some of them i think *would* be that stupid.
I do think, regardless of where they got the code from that they only blocked you because they realized you were right and somehow they thought that ignoring you meant you would be forced to go away. (little do they know)
So I'm betting on either a very very fast apology
or they'll just go ape-shit and start acting like you're the bad guy and start threatening legal actions, and all sorts of SC/psychotic behavior as if they somehow are entitled to keep the code that they "paid" goodness-knows-who for
The one possible snag in all of this is the question of who bought the code from Seraph. If the original company was named "MySite.com", and was incorporated as such, and "MySite.com" is the entity that actually bought and paid for the site (and not the owners, that matters hugely here), then the license for the design would be long to "MySite.com". At that point, the company could change ownership a thousand times over, and the license would likely still be valid, since the company owns it, not the people who own the company.
It's weird, but unless there's a clause in the license that covers this situation and specifically denies it, it's a matter of property law, and they would be able to win.
Certainly a possibility, but my bet is that either they stole it, or they hired a web designer who stole it to cut corners. Either way, they're idiots. But at least in the second scenario, they are uninformed idiots, rather than thieving knowledgeable idiots.
I'm not putting too much money on the second scenario, though.

Yes, the company could change owners and the license would still be valid. However, if that were the case, Seraph would either recognize the website, or have records of people purchasing the design for "MySite.com."
Since she does not, I can only assume that no one purchased the design for that website, or their purchased it from someone who stole it from Seraph, in which case it's still copyright infringement and she will win.
My Writing Blog -Updated 05/06/2013
It's so I can get ideas out of my head, I decided to put it in a blog in case people are bored or are curious as to the (many) things in progress.
