Or possibly, he called for an ambulance, refused to give his name or address, insisted the ambulance company already had it in their computer, and his last words were a screamed "JUST BRING IT!"

You just think you are kidding about that.

Yes, idiots do call 911 and refuse to give their name, address, etc.

Many of them, when connected to a 911 dispatcher, immediately shout something brilliant like, "Send an ambulance!" and disconnect.

Ooh. Didn't mean to open that can of worms.

Do they assume that 911 will automatically trace their call and send the ambulance straight to them?

It doesn't just happen by phone, either. When I worked for the council Car Parking dept, I lost count of the number of times that we'd get one of our permit applications sent in with nothing filled in, only the person's signature at the end.

Then a week later we'd get a call 'Where's my permit?' And when we explained that they hadn't filled in their name and address (or sent any supporting proofs of residency anyway) we would get 'But you sent it out to me, you must know where I live!!!' Trying to explain that the form was a blank generic one, and their address only appeared on the envelope, was like trying to drag a brontosaurus up a sand dune.

He refused to give his phone number (no caller ID, that cost money).

He would get angry, very angry, when asked for any of that information.

          .
This right here is the root cause. He thinks everyone has Caller ID or is the Amazing Kreskin.

we face the same dilema at my Red Roof pizza place. Our competition (meaning the other 2 Big Pizza companies and smaller regional places) all seem to have Caller ID.l The problem with us is that we get phone surveyed. Now with a phone survey, 5% of the time a way out of area phone number OR a blocked number would be a dead give-away for a phone survey. The other 95% would be out of towners using a cell phone to actually place an order from say a hotel.

Some do. But usually it's lack of intelligence, allied with blind panic. Add alcohol or drugs to that hellbrew and you get interesting times.

Didn't know The Rock could sing.
He also sang in one of his films....can't remember the title, but it was the one where he's a great football player and discovers that he has a daughter (I think it's called The Game Plan or something). He belts out a few Elvis songs in there.

The way our system works here, it can trace your call IF you are using a landline phone and give the street address that the phone number is assigned to.

Cell phones, OTOH, take a bit longer and can only give an approximate location (as close as the nearest cell phone tower, that is.)

That's the main reason my mother insists on keeping the landline phone. That and our DSL comes through the phone line as well.
