I must respectfully disagree with you, as Oregon produces some of the best beer in the country, thank you very much. Once on Facebook, I actually proposed to Rogue Brewery. Yes...the entire brewery.
If you ever wish to visit them, come on up. They've got a great location on the Newport bayfront - took one of my best photos ever, with the sun setting behind the Yaquina Bay bridge.

All this talk of Pacific NW food and no one has mentioned the nanaimo bar?

I forgot about nanaimo bars! They're so prevalent around here that I completely forgot that not everyone knows about them. They are even sold in big sheets at supermarkets, like brownies.

My favourite part is the custard. I'm one of those people who like to dissect food and eat favourite bits last (yes, I do take forever to eat, but I ENJOY it), and nanaimo bars are great for that.

Another thing is fiddleheads. They are basically fern sprouts. More popular on the east coast, though, I think.

As for beer, we have tons of excellent microbreweries in the area (Granville Island, Dead Frog, etc.). You should see all the pumpkin ale we have out right now. I accidentally broke a bottle in the cooler, and now the whole thing smells delicious!

Oh, I also forgot we have a new dairy in the area--Rogue River Creamery--that produced a new type of cheese--Rogue River Blue--that won the Best New Cheese award the year it came out at an international festival.

Considering some of your posts have hinted at you being among the older members here, would that have been the "map burns at the start" series which had one lead actor go on to become Commander Adama (in the "Starbuck takes a leak standing up" version of Battlestar Galactica), and another who was on Little House on the Prairie, and then became the angel on Highway to Heaven?
LOL, my Dad would have thought he'd died and gone to heaven if he got to work there for that series. Nope, it was a less well known one, High Chapperal (ok I know I spelled that wrong, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now).

I don't think he was a "real" Southerner, either, as I know plenty of Southerners, and for the most part, they are nice, good, awesome people. This guy was just a raging dickhead, who happened to be from the South.
In that case, he was definitely a Yank. After all, a "yank" is a sharp pull on a rope, with one of its synonyms being "jerk".

              Well played

As for the people looking for "western" food...I'd have pointed them to the nearest McDonald's, and exited post haste

I think they probably mean burgers and fries or bbq. They may mean soul food like mashed potatoes, fried chicken, etc.

I know lots of places to send people for that around here.

ooooo, bbq sounds so good. Have to talk to hubby about Voodoo bbq tonight. Best brisket on the planet.

                    High Chaparral!

High Chaparral was one of my grandpa's fave western series. I remember watching it in its original run (gads, I'm old) I had a crush (I think my first crush) on Manolito. (Henry Darrow) Hey, I was three or four!! And also, dimples! Or maybe my first crush was James West. (Robert Conrad, in "The Wild Wild West" ) Or Mr.Spock. Or Batman. (gads, I'm old)
Smile, or I'll smack you silly!

First, Darrow still has a great smile. Second, Conrad was... well, Conrad. Although, I was always a Martin fan, myself.
