Did anyone see the news report a couple of days ago showing the one Starbucks that was OPEN in NYC immediately after the storm? The lines were out the door. And they never said how the staff felt about coming in, or whether they agreed to it or were told "come in or you're fired." The reporter did say that every other location was closed because of the storm's aftermath.

I heard the same about some pizza guy there, where he and 4 other people made 1000 pizzas in 30 hours.

I wonder how THEY felt about it.

Actually, they already have this veto in all the areas I'm familier with. The first rule of any rescue is not to create more victims. Emergancy responders have the right to wait if conditions are not safe for them. It is generally done on their own reading of the situation, and many will do dangerous things in the name of lifesaving, because that's what they do. But the option to wait for backup, or for conditions to clear is an option.

I'm almost certain Aussieland has that rule too. You calculate the risk, but you try not to leave your children half-orphaned.
