Has anyone seen that ad where a family is sitting around a dinner table for Thanksgiving, and someone lifts the lid off the silver platter, only to reveal some thing saying "Black Friday," or "Sale" or something? It ticked me off. They were trying to say, "screw Thanksgiving, go out and buy stuff!"

    Hell, no.

That's pretty much what they've been trying to say for the past several years. It's getting bad enough that I wouldn't be surprised to see strikes or picket lines or some other kind of retail uprising before too long. Probably not this year, but I do think it's coming.

IF I go shopping on Black Friday, it will be during normal business hours, it won't be to any store that had Black Friday sales on Thursday, and it will most likely be at some local business so I know that the money I spend will stay here in my own town.

This holiday weekend gets more and more insulting every year.

I saw an ad for a home-improvement store yesterday touting "Pre-Black Friday" sales O_o

I'm off on Friday; some of our stores have Black Friday general-merchandise deals, but us being probably the smallest one in the state things might not be that busy. I offered to come in, but BossMan actually commanded me to stay home (I've been pulling too many extra hours the past two weeks; I swear I'm only employee who actually gets shit done).

As far as going out shopping, I probably won't. Might hit up the GameStore down the street to see if they have any absolute must-haves, but I'm not getting up at 4 (did that last year for my 3DS). Not even thinking of going near any malls. If I do venture out shopping (mostly small local stores) I will be polite and courteous to staff, and carry candy in my pockets to hand out.

All this talk of stampedes is getting me scared, lol. I'm going down to the states for my first Black Friday ever. I've mainly been concentrating on not getting my wallet/phone stolen in the crowd. Now I'm going to have to think about not getting stepped on haha.
you might also want to try inside the jacket.

and for any females there's the old purse slung across the shoulders, inside the coat setup. and if you're worried about the purse being cut, get one with a steel-reinforced strap.

Although, if it's like the Bfriday I was working for last year... <Store> had police on hand to keep order, both inside and outside.

There's rumors about that happening at some Walmarts. Don't know where though.

I heard something about that on the radio coming in to work today, about Wal-Mart filing suit against the NLRB for planned walkouts on Black Friday.

As for myself, even though school will be closed, I'll have to work when the alarms are set for normal hours, Wednesday and Friday. It's good, though; I'll have time to work on some inventory and projects that have been on the back burner due to all of the problems with the network here.

Won't set foot inside a store this week, even though the special PS3 package is calling to me...

I work at ye old green apron coffee slingers.

This friday, we're opening at 3am.

A couple problems: The only store in town that's doing any kind of Black Friday thing is Walmart. Walmart here is open 24 hours and their Black Friday starts @ 8pm Thursday.

Based on what's happened the past few years, my prediction is that the store will be completely dead until right before the opening shift leaves for the day. Which is exactly the shift that Bossman and Evil Other Shift so selflessly volunteered for. After which it will get crazy busy.

My hardware store is still overinundated with overexcessive quantities of well-intentioned but far-too-late storm supplies and post-storm supplies to be of any particular source of greed-originated product transmission to customers for a positive Black Friday experience.

The big question.. who will win the big race this year for the first to get a customer to cry, "YOU RUINED CHRISTMAS!!!" I'd be amazed if this happened even before Black Friday.

I seem to recall a thread back in January-ish where someone already ruined Christmas of 2012.

I tried Black Friday once. NEVER AGAIN!

I truly feel for those who work it. May you ruin many EW's Christmas.

                          Last...year's? What happened then?

I think I'll check your history, save you the trouble.

I still remember last year, Wednesday night I think, or Thursday. We needed drinks and some minor groceries, Al and his sister went to the store...

And they came back because they could barely get in the parking lot.

I work in a hotel and don't do Black Friday myself. The most I get is usually stories from our guests (we get a lot of Canadians who come down and get a room Thursday and take advantage of the sales).

Hubby just got recruited for a 12-hour shift at Mart of Wall on Black Friday doing plainclothes security, though, so he may have some interesting stories to tell.

I will be asleep in my nice bed until about 10 am. When I get up, I will have a leisurely breakfast, sew for awhile, then go to an open house hosted by some friends. Shopping? On Thanksgiving weekend? Don't be silly.

Seriously, though, I refuse to encourage this crap. Haven't shopped on Black Friday in years. Hugs and sympathy booze for those who have to put up with it.
