  • Poor kid

Had a woman through my checkout today with a little boy of around 7. As I start the transaction, she realises she's forgotten to get a hot chicken and sends her kid off to get one. But when he comes back, she wasn't happy with how big the chicken was, and starts going off on one about how the person at the deli must've stitched her child up, how dare they think that just because its a child they can get away with serving him a small chicken and hope he won't notice, and how crap all our staff are, blah blah. (Er no, more likely that every chicken is a different shape and size and he just happened to be given that one ?)

I tell her she'd be better off going to the deli and asking them to swap it for her rather than going mental at me, so off she trots. I'm left behind with the little boy and we're having a little chat and he's helping me pack, bless him. Qhen the mother finally comes back with a chicken to her liking, she sees her son packing and actually shouts AT HER KID for packing incorrectly and how useless he is ! I was watching him and I made sure he didn't put bleach in with food or anything like that but he was packing pretty sensibly and I see nothing wrong with what he did..anyway he's a little boy! I thought he was really sweet and helpful and if I had been his mother I'd have been praising him not embarassing him infront of the whole store! That poor kid having a mother like that..at least there is hope for children of SC parents though

That's kinda sad in a way . . . at least he wasn't screaming, knocking everything down and putting his sticky hands all over everything. In my opinion, I think it was kinda irresponsible for her to send her seven year old after a chicken, let alone leave him by himself at the register. Some people are rather trusting of their children and strangers (nothing against you, iamboredofreregistering).
This area is left blank for a reason.

That woman is ridiculous. See, it's people like that who should never, ever have children. That little boy sounds like an angel - what seven year old does what his parents tell him without complaining? - and yet, his mother's treating him like he's a brat. It's amazing what you can tell about a family just by watching them in the checkout line.

Sadly, I've seen plenty of parents like that at my store as well, and it pisses me off every time. They seem to have this idea that children are to be controlled and used as personal slaves, and should unquestionably obey every one of Mommy's spoiled little requests. I particularly hate the parents that talk all nice to the checkers and courtesy clerks, but when their kid tries to say something, they tell them to "shut up" and ignore them completely. I can deal with adults who are jerks to other adults, but people who are jerks to their kids make my blood boil.

It doesn't surprise me she left the boy with a worker. I mean, most people think we will gladly drop everything we are doing to babysit their kids. These people are just lucky we have hearts and feel bad for these kids so we make sure nothing happens to them.
