As some of you fine folks may know, I am an administrator on an adult website and chat room. I don't usually post too much about this as I usually try to keep the two endeavors far apart even though I could tell some doosies about the suckiness that occurs there. I come here to relax, unwind and be totally entertained by the fine folks at CS.com.
Anyway, A few nights ago I was doing my thing on that site, minding my own business behind the scenes. After making sure that all the i's were dotted and t's crossed I logged out. Since the computer was running pretty slow that night I decided to do a defrag and do a general cleaning of the crap out of my computer. When the defrag finished, I rebooted it just as I've done a hundred times. When the computer restarted, I got a blue screen. Tech error 0x00000024.
Well, long story short I called Dell support and got hold of one of the outsourced Bombay, India tech guys who called himself Jason or Justin. Sorry I just don't remember now. Not important anyway. He was actually damn good, spoke English very well and had me up and running in about an hour or so.
Two problems I had were that because my computer is out of warranty, (it's a Dell Dimension 2400 I got in Oct. 2005) I had to pay $39.00 for a one-time fee, which I hesitated in doing but as it turned out was a pretty good investment. Another problem was that because my HDD had to be formatted, I lost everything I had stored there. Not entirely bad as all of the important stuff I have backed up on disk.
Now to the good part.
Saturday before work, I was having an ICQ conversation with the owner of the site I run when I told him about the trouble I had with my computer. He took it all in and said nothing except to say he was sorry that happened. Today in the mail I got an Express Mail Overnight envelope with a check for $39.00 in it and a note of explanation. Turns out that one of the advertising banners on the site was tampered with by someone at the advertiser's end. The owner didn't find out about it until after we spoke on ICQ.
So, after this long story, there has to be a moral...
Never let it be said that all porn site owners are only in it for the money. At least one does honorable things and cares about his volunteers.
