This wonderful lady made me so happy today that I cried at work, here's how it went down.
background/ I was working cash register this morning and our store is taking donations of coffee beans to send to the troops overseas as a part of Soldier's Angels or we send them to the local fire/police departments. I choose to send them to the troops because my big brother is in the Army and it makes me feel better to know he is getting coffee and that others want him to have some of the luxuries he doesn't have over there. I had several people upset me that day by asking if we actually send the beans overseas. And yes we do./b/g
Me: Cheerful book woman
Wonderful Lady: Lady who made me cry
Me: Hi! How are you today? Did you find everything alright?
WL: Hello, I am fine. And I did find everything ok.
Me: Awesome, do you have our store card?
WL: Yes I do. *hands it over*
Me: *scans card* Thank you! And before I cash you out would you like to donate a bag of coffee beans to the troops overseas today?
WL: Not today, I did do it last time and I will donate next week. We are in here all the time and very much appreciate that you do donations like that.
Me: Well, thank you. As a sister of a soldier I appreciate donators.
WL: I think it's important that companies do that in this day and age.
Me: I agree. I only wish my other customers thought so.
WL: I want you to listen to me now hon. Young people today have are spoiled rotten and take everything for granted because their parents and grandparents fought for what we have now and no one wants to contribute too keeping what we fought for. Our freedoms are not free and it takes a lot of sacrifice for our soldiers and their families to do what they do. I may not know you or your family or your soldier, but every night as I go to bed, when I say my prayers I lift you up and your families up because you all are a precious gift and you sacrifice so much for us to have what we have.
Me: Thank you so much for that. It really makes me feel better that I have found someone who believes that our sacrifices are worth it.
WL: You are precious and so is your brother. Thank him for me and my family. Now come here. *she hugs me and I hug back* Now you have a blessed day.
Me: You too ma'am. And again thank you.
I just felt so relieved that others felt the way I do about giving to our service workers. I was starting to lose faith in humanity, but thank you lady for making my day, and thus my brother's day better. I did relay this to him later and he was very happy to hear someone was thankful for him other than his family.
