  • Parents who actually know punishment other than spanking?

It sometimes seems only my parents were the ones who looked up this thing called operant conditioning. The way most people I see on the internet describe it, they say spank your kid for everything.

So at Smash Burger today, there was one of those kids who is only able to communicate through screaming and crying. Even if he's like "Can I have a fry?" he screams and cries. Mom and dad actually didn't want to have any of this because after awhile, they said "Use your words. If you can't use your words, you don't get to go here anymore until you can."

It went in one ear and out the other of course and then finally dad said, "That's it - you're going to stay home with Baba everytime we go out until you can use your words." That seemed to do it.

Dont' ask me who "Baba" was. Hopefully it wasn't Baba Yaga.

What's wrong with Baba Yaga? Punishments are only effective if the kid really wants to avoid them.
Sorry, my cow died so I don't need your bull

Yes. I see nothing wrong with Baba Yaga.

But parents who understand spanking doesn't work? I don't believe it. They must have watched Supernanny.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.
