Just today, coworkers could hear my cries of "Google!" from my desk.

AT&T replaced something on one of the two T1s coming into the building this morning.

I don't know what it is, or what it does, or even if it has any relation whatsoever, but today, for the first time in weeks, I am once again able to use Google as my search engine of choice.

Gawd, I can't tell you how much I missed how easy Google makes searching for me. Just being able to type in "Store near First & Main, myZIP" and have it come up with a mini-map and list of locations was frustrating.

Most of you are tech types, so your reaction is probably the similar. However, for those of us who aren't tech/computer gurus computers can be very frustrating and difficult, so even little victories are a big deal. Don't begrudge us our happy dances.
After being down for two weeks after my modem bit the dust and before I got DSL, let me tell ya, I was doing a little happy-happy-joy-joy dance!

I prefer Firefox since it's not a Microsoft product. And I find it sad about Netscape going away. Haven't used it for years, but it's still sad.

So besides the spiffy black interface is there anything else different between this and Google.com?
It's meant to reduce carbon dioxide emissions because displaying black on a screen uses less power than displaying white.

Netscape might be dead, but their original browser lives on (well, kinda), thanks to Mozilla.

It's called SeaMonkey, my browser of choice. It essentially uses Mozilla's technology all rolled into one all-purpose 'internet application suite', but if you look in the left top corner of SeaMonkey, you'll notice the familiar Netscape boat steering wheel (?) logo, and if you hover the mouse over the 'M' logo in the bottom left-hand corner, it'll identify itself as 'Navigator'.

It's a nice idea, but that's only right for CRTs, as far as I understand it. LCDs have backlights that run all the time when on, so it doesn't make much odds there.

Yeah I'm not 100% convinced of the science behind it either. I just think it looks cool.

Y'know, part of me wishes I could live my life, and all its trivialities, with that much enthusiasm.

Beginning of the school year, IE7 broke in regards to our web mail. Our only solution at the time was to tell everyone to use Firefox or another browser. We got all the "it's spyware" "I don't trust it" wah wah wah complaints. Then, one of the CS profs came over "My son works at Microsoft." ......

                  .....

                  .....

                  Uh.... and?

Finally I had to tell him, you can use another browser, or not use web mail. Up to you.

                  He didn't use web mail.

(Oddly enough, he had no qualms using his Mac.)

Further to the all-non-M$-is-evil issue... actual conversation with a co-worker:

her: "My son told me that Linux is really bad."
me: "Well it's not for everyone, you have to really know what you're doing."
her: "Well that explains it, my son never knows what he's doing."

(this is the same son who takes all the money from her bag, forcing her to skip lunch)

This may be a stupid question; in fact, I can't properly put it into words, but he gave up using web mail because of a problem with it and Internet Explorer, which his Mac won't run in the first place?
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

No, this was just on his PC laptop. He had a network set up with both a PC laptop and Macs. He could check his webmail on his mac, but not PC. Which had him confused.

But didn't they stop at IE 5 for macs? That could put a severe damper on what you can do.
